Named after the French officer in charge shot through the head in the opening salvo, maybe by a 22 year old British officer in charge named George Washington.

Re: Add Jumonville Glen Battle site to your World historic sites
This thread reminds me of how the Mongols used to mine silver deep in the heart of China and then transported it using centuries-old trade routes to the steps of eastern Europe where they would trade the silver for precious jewels and Lapis Lazuli which they would use to ornately decorate the handles and scabbards of their weapons.
This practice turned out to be quite useful years later when the Mongols invaded Gaul (now called Spain) and they were able to trade the precious jewels for Spanish whores and alcohol. Unfortunately, the practice had become so widespread and rampant that it caused the eventual collapse of the entire Byzantine Empire, which in turn allowed Portugal to build the largest navy in the world which it used to invade Japan and corner the world market for whale oil. Once the global whale oil market was secure, Portugal was able to turn all it's military might toward the Soviet Union and the rest is... well... history.

And couple of course the major bad side of the "Columbian exchange". Invasive species. For example, went barefoot last week during the warm weather. Got a couple of stickers. Thistle seeds in the wheat seed brought over by the Ukranian immigrants to the Midwest back in the 1880's. My whole land is overrun by mesquites- steppes of Asia.

This thread kinda reminds me if this poem:
Strange fits of passion have I known:
And I will dare to tell,
But in the Lover's ear alone,
What once to me befell.
When she I loved looked every day
Fresh as a rose in June,
I to her cottage bent my way,
Beneath an evening-moon.
Upon the moon I fixed my eye,
All over the wide lea;
With quickening pace my horse drew nigh
Those paths so dear to me.
And now we reached the orchard-plot;
And, as we climbed the hill,
The sinking moon to Lucy's cot
Came near, and nearer still.
In one of those sweet dreams I slept,
Kind Nature's gentlest boon!
And all the while my eyes I kept
On the descending moon.
My horse moved on; hoof after hoof
He raised, and never stopped:
When down behind the cottage roof,
At once, the bright moon dropped.
What fond and wayward thoughts will slide
Into a Lover's head!
"O mercy!" to myself I cried,
"If Lucy should be dead!"
Strange fits of passion have I known:
And I will dare to tell,
But in the Lover's ear alone,
What once to me befell.

You know, years ago it was a pleasure and fun to spend a few hours a day on UJ. Now with all the assorted idiots, maybe 5 minutes per month, if that. This is how sites die.

It’s true, harassing posters, or allowing harassment of posters, is a way to kill a site.

They're both dead, you idiot. I've mentioned that before.
You should have used "was" for proper syntax.

Is she in a Mausoleum or do I have to do digging, because that's a deal breaker.Reservoir Dog wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2019 11:01 pmWell, she's dead. So I suppose I can cut you a deal.
