On the other hand I was told a group of Monsanto executives all came back from China in February and they each came down with a version of the flu and nobody was ever tested to see what they had. My brother in law said he was in a meeting with several of them before they showed symptoms.
I had an RN in doing her taxes last week. She is of the opinion that the virus has been around all winter and a lot of people have had it without knowing it. Don't know if she is correct, but it made me think.

The CDC said it is possible but very highly unlikely. They are trying to test old blood samples to prove it wasn't the case but it'll take a while.

Locally, people are having a meltdown each time a company says an employee tests positive as if it means they are about to die. In about a week they expect 1% of Illinois to be documented to have it. Does that mean 5% actually have it? 10%? That Amazon warehouse with 300 workers announces one has it and everyone freaks out. World is full of Karen's.

Well, the obvious answer to that question is that its purely a guess on the part of the people that "thought it up". Its not based on anything other than someone remembering "wow, I had a bad flu in December, I bet it was the Corona.". Could it have happened? I suppose there is a chance. Is there any evidence to support it? None.

Yeah, I think those who were sick in December and early January likely did not have the CV. But what about from mid-January onward? Wouldnt you say that the likelihood of it being CV increased by the week?
absolutely. i really haven't heard anyone deny the fact that there are people that have had mild cases (or maybe stayed home with really bad cases) that escaped the "net of the testing". Basically the testing was available for people that thought they had it and were showing symptoms to back it up. If you weren't interested in being tested, then you weren't.

Do, I think there were "exponential" numbers of people that fall into that category? No. Because if there were, then we would have had people dying unexplainably.

This article I read a few days ago gives the impression this could have been here middle of January. It's was published a month ago though.

Per zerohedged

China is no longer fixed.

Having lied for the past two months about the severity of the coronavirus pandemic, eager to convey the message that the crisis "under control" just so people return to work, full of hope and enthusiasm, rejoicing at the surge in China's just as fabricated PMI numbers, and willing to work their asses off (with Beijing generously willing to risk everyone's lives as the alternative is a complete collapse in China's economy) earlier today the US finally cracked down on the relentless barrage of Chinese lies, when US intelligence accused China of deliberately lying about its coronavirus figures.

Then, in a miraculous coincidence, just moments later Reuters reported that a county in central China's Henan province announced on Wednesday it had "virtually banned all outbound movement of people, following several cases of coronavirus infection in the area."

According to a post on its social media account, Jia county - which has a population of about 600,000 - said that no one can travel out of Jia county without proper authorization. Additionally, residents are not allowed to leave their homes for work unless they have clearance to do so.

According to local media reports, on March 29, Henan Province broke its 30-day streak of reporting no new coronavirus cases, saying one person tested positive after a trip to Pingdingshan, where Jia County is located. Specifically, on Saturday, Henan province reported one confirmed case in Luohe city; local authorities said the infected person had been in contact with two doctors based in Jia county who later tested positive for the virus even though they had showed no symptoms.

As a result, Bloomberg adds that starting April 1, all residential compounds will be under "closed-off management" and all residents need to wear masks and have temperature taken entering or exiting the compounds.

And so the virus is back to China, despite the best intentions of the Chinese World Health Organization and its Beijing sponsors to make it seem that China had managed to defeat the virus.

Needless to say this is a problem, because the risk of stop-start restrictions on people’s movements mean that any calls for a V-shaped rebound in global economies and stocks can now be ignored as China will soon be forced to go through the entire shut down exercise all over again.

January 20th is the first documented case. Per that article a sample of the virus from a later patient showed to have been directly linked to the first case. I think 1-2k nationwide in mid-January is possible. Not 30 people in Pittsburgh who had a fever most likely.

Many act like if you are sick today that's what you have - not the case at all.

If you like history, now is an absolutely wonderful real life historical experiment going on and you can watch it unfold in real time. Cities are setting up hotlines so that people can call in and report on businesses (their fellow citizens) who should be closed but aren't. I've seen multiple people online bragging THEY will do it because it's the right thing to do.

Anyone with any sort of interest in history should be able to at least slightly see how this compares to Europe from 1937ish to 1944. Citizens turning in their fellow citizens. It happens repeatedly throughout history, here it is happening in real time and we get to live through it on a less horrific scale. Our local media is telling citizens how to turn in their fellow citizens.

I heard today that the LA mayor has made it mandatory that people in LA wear "anything" (t shirt, towel, napkin, whatever) as a makeshift mask if they go outside to buy groceries or any other essential activity during the lock down.

I think masks area good idea and should have been promted by the CDC since day 1. Not because they protect you against breathing in the virus, but because they keep you from touching your face, which seems to be the way 99% of the people contact the virus and get sick. PLUS, you don't know who might be asymptomatic (and they don't either), so why not just make everyone do it? Plus, it makes people that want to do it feel less stupid if everyone else is having to do it.
