Name a company you love
OK, since y'all insist I'll start. I fuckin' love Google. Damn, all their shit is free too! The Google search engine (which I recommended even back in the 90's when I was in IT) is nothing but brilliant at this point. Now I just ask a question and the AI in that bitch is so amazing even I'm impressed. It's even prefilling what it thinks I want to say and more times than not, it's right. I'm like, fucker, how did you know that that's what I was looking for?
Next we have Google Youtube, what else can I say? This beauty has every decent music video available & for free. A lot of other interesting content. If you want to binge watch fatal car accidents, guess what, they have it there for you. How cool is that?
You can set up your own site there and upload your own videos. You can also monetize it, how cool is that? I helped out a church with that not too long ago.
OK, I have some other companies I absolutely love (for some reason practically all of them are US based) but I'm really curious about what companies you guys like.
Discuss.

Next one on my list, good 'ol USA Amazon. I really don't give a fuck about that douche Jeff Bezos nor should I, but Amazon is completely awesome.
They have the best prices, biggest selection, almost anything you can imagine, & all delivered to your doorstep with no taxes. I have it linked to my Amex Card and since I use that for everything there's always bonus points for me to buy more shit on Amazon, seemingly for free.
It just takes a few clicks, since it saves virtually everything, including your orders & favorites. Actually I set a bunch of lists for stuff I tend to reorder, like herbal teas, dog food & whatnot.
It must really be a godsend for people like Quint & WTC who aren't very close to large stores. The funny thing is my wife gets mad at me when I just order stuff on Amazon. She's like "no, we need to go to the store". For what, a smaller selection and higher prices, not to mention the time and cost of using a vehicle to get there?
I think it's cute though, she likes to go out shopping, you know women.
Anyway, Amazon completely rox. Good for them.

Absolutely. If no one else said it that was the next one on my list. Windows 10 is a bargain and is completely invincible, now providing free updates/improvements as good as they are? Get out. The whole world relies on their software, and a lot of these commie douchebag countries like China doesn't even pay for it. Microsoft Office and all the their products like Access are great.
Once again, another American company that totally kicks azz. God bless America.

Fuckin' China just relies on us and doesn't even give us credit for what we do. The fuckin' mooch idiots. Those ugly slant eyed crooked ignorant fucks need to learn to STFU if you ask me. Whatever, my vote is to bomb these ignorant fucks out of existence with nuclear weapons 'cause truth be told I really don't like them either. Think about it China. I think I have payed enough in taxes for this to happen.FreakShowFanatic wrote: ↑Fri May 29, 2020 10:20 pmAbsolutely. If no one else said it that was the next one on my list. Honestly I'm not sure.BigRedRetard wrote: ↑Sun May 31, 2020 2:04 pm10 years ago. Does Oracle still support Solaris? I loved Solaris back in the day.
I do know I still have a copy of Solaris 6 around here somewhere.
ETA: Just checked and you can download 11.4 so they must.

You can certainly still d/l the VirtualBox image of it. I might be wrong, haven't dealt with Solaris in a long time, but Solaris/X86 is really picky on what real hardware it runs with. Drivers are a huge issue. So the VB image is about the only way to go. I dealt with much more SCO and AIX in the day, they were much more prevalent for medical applications than Solaris ever was.megman wrote: ↑Sun May 31, 2020 2:06 pmHonestly I'm not sure.BigRedRetard wrote: ↑Sun May 31, 2020 2:04 pm10 years ago. I think a whole lot better of Microsoft since Nadella took over from that sweaty fat piece of shit Ballmer. Maybe still don't trust them 100%, but I kind of like the direction they're going with open-source software.
By the way, IBM OS/2 v4 Warp still remains my favorite OS of all time. And still around, too!
If you can't be a good example, you can still serve as a horrible warning.

I used to have a dual 286 board that fit in a regular motherboard slot that I could run it on inside of WIN98. But it has been awhile since I've dealt with it.QillerDaemon wrote: ↑Sun May 31, 2020 3:26 pmYou can certainly still d/l the VirtualBox image of it. I could make/run a router with 2 floppy disks.
I've run VB for some older OS's. I may have to revisit it to see how much I've forgotten.

I always had fun sitting around a coffee shop with my laptop open to this site: https://hackertyper.net/
Occasionally I would stop typing, look around suspiciously and then go back to typing.

Re: Name a company you love
My old LUG used to assist with the original open-source Smoothwall firewall/router project 20-something years ago. Then out of the blue, the developers decided to go commercial with it and blocked us freebies out. IPCop was forked off and we assisted with that project for a while. Then again poof! it went commercial and we were locked out of that, too. My part in it was trying to use OpenBSD instead of RedHat as the base OS for what we thought was better security. Both projects are still up on SourceForge but are basically abandoned at this point.BigRedRetard wrote: ↑Sun May 31, 2020 10:33 pm Routing with linux was big back in the day. Man, the days when you could run a Linux system on a single floppy (3.5" disk, of course), those are long gone.

Glock.
Perfect design and functionality.
Great service which is never needed. Almost all repair/upgrades can be done by a guy with a $20 all in one tool.

I had a Supersport laptop, I think it was from 1987.
It had a lead acid battery. It was running DBaseIII, a monochrome screen, a 20mb hardrive and a 1400baud modem built in. It was the second model made for the IRS. I could rule the world with it.

Glock fans vs Ruger fans: a senseless war of words over handguns.
But I have seven Rugers and love every one of them.
