Have you ever made a knife like this?

I've been seeing a lot of ads for this Japanese knife and I'm curious how it would handle and if you ever or possibly could make one.

I'm pretty damn sure that most would agree that there are those amongst us that are taking this whole "UJR" forum thing Way too damn serious. They used to get mocked off the board within hours. Sign of the times I guess. Dumb everything down to the lowest level.

"Hand Forged" I hate that design. It'd be fine without the hole in it.

I have made a similar one in the past.
I could look into doing another one, I'm just slowing down a little these days.

what kind of dimensions are you thinking for the length of the blade? Just guessing from the picture it looks around 9 inches or so?

I'm really curious, as I've never done forging, as to how that design gets made on the top edge of the knife.

With a sheath and shipping, I would guess around $150-$165.

What you are seeing on the upper spine of the picture you posted are hammer peens. They are generally ground away, but some like the look.

I was thinking the same. There is a reason a Western chef's knife is shaped and weighted the way it is, it's a shape that gives the most utility in use and is easiest and safest to hold and handle. That hole and your finger in it along with the skinny-ass handle looks like it would be tiring to hold after a few whacks and not really steady.
If you can't be a good example, you can still serve as a horrible warning.
