For me in the Great North, with our brutal winters and hot summers, there are a lot of variables.
In the winter, I would set my thermy to about 15C (you do the conversion to Frankenstein) . But if we were coming home at a different time from the scheduled heat blast, or later, I can control when the house gets heated. Its very awesome to be driving home and jacking the thermy as I drive and come home to a warm house. Or to delay coming home for a couple hours and stopping the furnace from heating an empty house.
Yes, that does sound like a First World convenience, and it is.
