Yeah, that is pretty small for a B-17. I'm thinking British.Reservoir Dog wrote: ↑Sun May 30, 2021 10:26 pmNope.

I'm pretty sure It does. The 2 on the mid-lower left show the USA star emblem only- US Air force. The one on the right has the same star but surrounded by what looks like a simple carrier emblem. Navy.

Douglass A-20. awesome. I'm pretty sure the B-17 was a 4 engine. Didn't notice that on the first photos.

Just a technicality, the US Air Force didn't exist until 1947. And the two different markings on the plane in the pics are both Army Air Corps markings.CentralTexasCrude wrote: ↑Mon May 31, 2021 12:36 am Oh crap just the opposite. AF on right Army the others. Mixed compony bombing run.

The Army Air Corps and US Air Force never coexisted. USAAC became USAF.CentralTexasCrude wrote: ↑Mon May 31, 2021 12:36 am Oh crap just the opposite. AF on right Army the others. Mixed compony bombing run.

Yeah I know-1947. Maybe the photos are post 1947. Has to be an answer why the different planes in that formation have different decals.theclap wrote: ↑Mon May 31, 2021 6:58 pmThe Army Air Corps and US Air Force never coexisted. KInda, but not really. They can pass and Truman can sign but creating a new military branch is going to take some time. I'm guessing with LeMay in the wings, it probably went pretty quick.spudoc wrote: ↑Mon May 31, 2021 9:23 pmAlready answeredCentralTexasCrude wrote: ↑Mon May 31, 2021 7:47 pmYeah I know-1947. Re: CQ's Military thread
Favorite LeMay story. Probably early 1960's maybe- he's on a worldwide inspections of forward USAF bombing positions. Some air field in the middle of frickin nowhere. Standing next to a jet just leaking fuel everywhere on the runway smoking his Cigar. Some private asked him if that was good idea? It could blow up. Lemay said "It Wouldn't dare".
