well, i was kind of under the assumption that the more states locked down the more it drove the price of amazon up. I would have thought a 2nd wave would have been a huge boost to amazon. not the other way around.B-Tender wrote: ↑Fri Jul 17, 2020 8:37 pmI'm sure profit taking was part of it, especially as CA shut back down, and TX and FL numbers looked worrisome. That's one way of looking at it. I think a lot of optimism was baked in. Another round of shut downs seems to increase the likelyhood of a recession, not to mention people are going to lose the extra unemployment money at the end of this month unless things change.Flumper wrote: ↑Fri Jul 17, 2020 8:38 pmwell, i was kind of under the assumption that the more states locked down the more it drove the price of amazon up. I owned some silver back about ten years ago. I remeber it being around $13/oz. Today if I owned it as a hedge, I'd just hold. If I owned it as an investment I'd sell some or all. The key to precious metals is to buy them when no one wants or needs them.

So youre saying the trick is to buy low and sell high?

I was waiting for that! Yeah I know it sounds obvious, but so many people only think about precious metals at the exact wrong time to buy them. They buy during the gloom and doom, and then when things start looking better they sell to get back into stocks.CHEEZY17 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 04, 2020 8:45 pmSo youre saying the trick is to buy low and sell high?

If you really want to gauge the overall optimism of an economy, you should look at copper futures, and right now its bullish

Re: Normally I don't fux with stocks
the weird thing that I heard on the radio was that when Apple splits, its new price will then become the price recorded on the Nasdaq.
to explain, Friday the Nasdaq was up 80 points (or whatever it was). And it was almost all due to Apple. Now, when Apple splits 4:1, that would have only added 20 points to the Nasdaq. In other words, they don't apply a factor of 4 to the new price to get it back to where it was prior to the split.
That was a little mind blowing to me.

Wow. If a company had nuts this would be a symbolic kick to them. What a behemoth they used to be. Almost like GM in a way.B-Tender wrote: ↑Tue Aug 25, 2020 8:28 pm After 92 years, Exxon exiting the Dow.
