Ala. mayor posts apology after defending social media comments on killing homosexuals, transgender people and Democrats

CARBON HILL, Ala. (WBRC) - Carbon Hill mayor Mark Chambers responded exclusively to WBRC FOX6 News about recent controversial comments he made in a Facebook post.

The post has been removed from Facebook.

The post written in all capital letters said:

“We live in a society where homosexuals lecture us on morals, transvestites lecture us on human biology, baby killers lecture us on human rights and socialists lecture us on economics.”

Chambers faced strong criticism from his constituents for the post and also for a response to his Facebook friend who wrote:

"By giving the minority more rights than the majority. I hate to think of the country my grandkids will live in unless somehow we change and I think that will take a revolution.”

Chambers responded to that comment saying:

“The only way to change it would be to kill the problem out. I know it’s bad to say but without killing them out there’s no way to fix it.”

Carbon Hill's mayor, Mark Chambers, responded exclusively to WBRC FOX6 News about controversial comments he made in a Facebook post.
We spoke to Chambers over the phone Monday about the comments he posted Friday. During our first conversation with Chambers, he denied writing the comments.

“I don’t think I posted that. I think that’s somebody else’s post,” he said.

We questioned Chambers about the Facebook page, which contained birthday greetings and pictures of Chambers’ family.

“So, you're saying someone is using your identity on Facebook," reporter Brittany Dionne asked.

"I don't know," Chambers replied.

We offered to meet Chambers in person so he could view the post. He declined then hung up.

Minutes later, Chambers called back. During the second conversation, which lasted about six minutes, Chambers acknowledged writing the post, but he said it was being taken out of context. Chambers also claimed he erroneously posted the comment publicly and that it was meant to be a private message between he and a friend.

During the call, Chambers spoke about immigrants, calling them “ungrateful.” Chambers claimed immigrants were taking over the country and voiced his comments were in response to a civil war happening in the United States.

Chambers went on to defend his comments.

“I never said anything about killing out gays or anything like that,” Chambers said.

We read the post from Chambers’ page back to him.

“That’s in a revolution. That’s right! If it comes to a revolution in this country both sides of these people will be killed out," he said.

Chambers then fumed about privacy and his Facebook page not being for the public, although Chambers acknowledged his pages privacy settings were public. He later changed the Facebook page to private.

Chambers said he was not concerned about criticism from his constitutes. He said there is only one person in the town who does not like him and he that does not have a problem with anyone.

On Tuesday, Chambers posted an apology on his Facebook page.

Chambers’ bio on the town’s official website says he decided to get involved in the city’s politics because Carbon Hill was not going in a positive direction.

Chambers took on leading the town of less than 2,000 people in 2014.

Trump Supporter Arrested After Allegedly Threatening To Kill Members of Congress
Scott Brian Haven of Utah is accused of making over 2,000 phone calls to the U.S. Capitol over a three-year period about Democrats threatening Trump’s presidency.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Utah man has been arrested on accusations he threatened to kill members of Congress during a three-year stretch with more than 2,000 phone calls to the U.S. Capitol and profanity-laden tirades about Democrats threatening the presidency of Donald Trump.

In one call last month, Scott Brian Haven dialed the office of an unnamed U.S. representative and purported to be standing right behind him and ready to “shoot him in the head” because “the Russians want him taken out because he is trying to remove a duly elected President,” according to charging documents unsealed Wednesday.

Haven, 54, said, “I’m going to do it now, are you ready?” before hanging up, prosecutors allege.

He was arrested Tuesday in his hometown of Kaysville, Utah, about 20 miles (32 kilometers) north of Salt Lake City. He is charged with interstate transmission of threats to injure. State online records indicate he has no criminal history in Utah.

Haven’s court-appointed attorney, Robert Steele, did not immediately return phone and email messages seeking comment.

At his initial hearing Wednesday, a magistrate judge ordered Haven to remain jailed pending the outcome of the case, calling him a danger to the community.

Haven commonly alluded to him and other gun owners taking matters into their own hands, charging documents show.

He told a staffer for an unnamed senator in September 2018 that there were “far more Second Amendment people than whiny, crying liberals,” the documents said.

He called back the next month to the same office and said, “We will exercise our Second Amendment rights to address Democrat mobs that threaten conservatives,” according to the documents.

Haven threatened to cut off the heads of two senators in another call and in yet another one identified himself as Hitler and yelled repeatedly he would “put a bullet” in the head of the senator, the documents said.

The names and political affiliations of the members of Congress who were threatened are not included in the charging documents.

Melodie Rydalch, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Utah, said Thursday she could not provide details beyond what were in the legal documents.

When a federal law enforcement agent confronted Haven last summer about his calls, Haven threatened to beat up the agent. Haven also denied making some of the calls and told the agent that he should be investigating groups like Black Lives Matter.

Tenn. deputy, pastor calls for LGBTQ executions in sermon
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT/Gray News) - An embattled Knox County sheriff’s deputy, who also is a pastor, on Wednesday defended a sermon he gave filled with anti-gay, derogatory language during a church service, WVLT reported.

WARNING: The story and video contain offensive language.

Grayson Fritts, pastor of All Scripture Baptist Church, told his congregation he was upholding principles of the Bible and called other Baptist preachers, “weak and spineless” for not doing the same.

"Just as much as God loves, God hates,” he said.

Fritts said he never called on civilians to commit violence against members of the LGBTQ community. He told his congregation Wednesday that responsibility lies with the government.

He finished his commentary by saying, “put homos to death.”

Someone left a note outside the church before service started. It was quickly picked up by a congregant and taken inside the church building. It said, “Dear Pastor Fritts, I don’t know what happened to you, but I am so sorry. Love, Thy Neighbor.”

Knox County District Attorney General Charme Allen announced she would review all pending cases involving Fritts as a witness.

“I find this speech personally offensive and reprehensible,” Allen said. “As district attorney, my constitutional obligation is to protect the integrity of the justice system. When any potential witness in a criminal proceeding expresses an opinion of hatred and/or bias towards a class of citizens, I am ethically bound to explore that witness’ credibility. Accordingly, I am reviewing all pending cases involving Mr. Fritts to scrutinize them for any potential bias.

"Although my office has never received a complaint regarding Mr. Fritts prior to this incident, I have assigned an assistant district attorney to receive complaints regarding closed cases, and I will act on those complaints as justice dictates.”

Fritts sermon defensive Wednesday followed his June 2 statements, when he called on police to enforce a Bible passage from Leviticus that prescribes death as punishment for being a member of the LGBTQ community. The sermon prompted an investigation by the Knox County District Attorney’s Office.

That sermon also contained violent and belittling statements. He has been a pastor at the church for two years.

The church clearly outlined its beliefs on its website, using anti-gay speech and saying members of the LGBTQ community were not allowed to join or attend. The website also condemned Calvinism and expresses its belief in the end times.

The sheriff’s office said that days before delivering the sermon, Fritts asked for early retirement from the department. Knox County Sheriff Tom Spangler said Fritts made the request two weeks prior to June 12.

“Detective Fritts turned in his request for The Knox County Voluntary Workforce Reduction Buy Out approximately two weeks ago,” Spangler said. “I accepted his request. Detective Fritts is no longer on active duty with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, he is currently on paid sick leave until the effective date of the workforce reduction which will be July 19, 2019.

“I want to be very clear that it is my responsibility to ensure equal protection to All citizens of Knox County, Tennessee under the law, my oath and the United States Constitution without discrimination or hesitation. Rest assured that I have and will continue to do so.”

Fritts was named detective of the month by Knox County Sheriff's Office in 2017 after taking a suspect in a violent home break-in into custody within 24 hours.

Preachers are having a ‘Make America Straight Again’ event in Orlando & they’re praying for violence

Some of the scheduled speakers have called for the mass extermination of LGBTQ people. They're gathering to "celebrate" the 3 year anniversary of the Pulse mass shooting.

A group of anti-LGBTQ preachers will be hosting a “Make America Straight Again” conference this weekend in Florida, three years after the Pulse nightclub shooting.

The preachers, associated with the New Independent Fundamentalist Baptist Church, put together the conference in Orlando as a way to dishonor those who died in the gay nightclub shooting that left 49 people dead on June 12, 2016.

According to a promotional video put together by pastor Patrick Boyle of the Revival Baptist Church in Orlando, the three-day conference will be “exposing the reprobates.”

He said that the speakers invited to the conference are known for “making a vocal stand against the Sodomites and their filth that they’ve been spreading to the homes of families across the world and the United States of America.”

Related: Hundreds form human chain to block Westboro Baptist Church protesters in Orlando

One of the scheduled speakers is Steven Anderson, who praised the Pulse nightclub shooter for killing “a bunch of disgusting perverts and pedophiles” and “disgusting homosexuals who the Bible says were worthy of death.”

He has been banned from dozens of countries because of his extreme anti-LGBTQ hate speech.

Sacramento-based preacher Roger Jimenez is also scheduled to appear. In 2016, he said of the Pulse shooting: “Are you sad that 50 pedophiles were killed today?”

“If we lived in a righteous government, they should round them all up and put them up against a firing wall, and blow their brains out.”

Tommy McMurtry will also attend. He once said that “homos” should be “put in their place: six feet under.”

Boyle himself has made extreme statements, which he highlights in his own promotional video: “God hates homos. Amen. God hates the faggots and the queers and the LGBT crowd.”

He also called for “capital punishment for everybody that’s a homo, amen.”

McMurtry also posted a video to YouTube – where his channel is called “Let God Burn Them Quickly” (as in, “LGBTQ”) – to promote the Make America Straight Again conference.

Actually, it's probably more his daughter Liz, who's publicly very opposed to same-sex marriage, against her sister Mary, who's in a same-sex marriage with children. Dick is either neutral on the whole gayness subject, or has at least attenuated his private opinions since his daughter came out. Kind of like how Papa George Bush was originally pro-choice (or at least pro-"it's not my business") about abortion, until it became politically expedient to move to a more anti-choice position. But who knows what his real private thoughts on the subject were.
If you can't be a good example, you can still serve as a horrible warning.

Former Idaho GOP Chairman Arrested While Already in Court for Felony Stalking Charges

Jonathan Parker, the former chairman of the Idaho Republican Party, was arrested Friday morning while already in court for a preliminary hearing stemming from being charged with felony first-degree stalking. It marked the second arrest for Parker in less than a month.

According to reports from the Idaho Statesman, the preliminary hearing ended with Parker, his attorney, and the prosecutor all agreeing to continue his preliminary hearing in August. The judge then confirmed that Parker was, at that moment, out of police custody, and said, “Mr. Parker, I do believe the deputies are taking you into custody on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant…on privacy trespass.”

Ada County Sheriff’s deputies were present in the courtroom and proceeded to handcuff a bewildered Parker and take him into custody. He was booked Friday into the Ada County jail on misdemeanor trespass of privacy and released after posting bond.

Idaho’s law against trespass of privacy is an anti-voyeur statute which proscribes, “ “for any person, upon the private property of another, to intentionally look, peer or peek in the door, window, or other transparent opening of any inhabited building or other structure located thereon, without visible or lawful purpose.”

Parker was initially arrested on May 30 by police investigating a call about a man acting strangely near the home of Parker’s estranged wife. After making contact with the man later identified as Parker, police discovered an active protection order between Parker and his estranged wife. Police arrested Parked and charged him with first-degree felony stalking.

According to court records obtained by the Idaho Statesman, police said that Parker repeatedly disguised himself with a wig and masturbated while hiding in bushes near his wife’s apartment complex.

Parker’s lawyer, former Idaho attorney general David Leroy said the situation was a “grand misunderstanding,” claiming that Parker was actually on his way to a costume party and was peering through windows in an attempt to scare a different woman.

Parker’s latest arraignment is scheduled for Monday, June 17.

Dallas Federal Building Shooter Posted Far-Right Memes About Nazis and Confederacy

Image

A Texas man accused of opening fire outside a Dallas courthouse uploaded right-wing memes to Facebook, including memes about Nazism and the Confederacy.

Authorities said Brian Clyde, 22, attacked the Earle Cabell federal courthouse Monday morning before law enforcement killed him. No one else was reported injured. A Dallas Morning News photograph of Clyde shows him holding a semi-automatic rifle and wearing a belt full of ammunition. He appears to have uploaded to his Facebook page a picture of similar magazines on Saturday. Elsewhere on the page, he shared memes, some of which suggested racist or misogynist views.

Authorities did not offer a possible motive for Clyde’s rampage and declined to comment on his social media presence.

Wearing a ski mask and what appeared to be a bulletproof vest, Clyde reportedly opened fire on bystanders near the courthouse parking lot. He then reportedly fired on the building, shattering the glass front doors. Police later detonated what they described as a suspicious device in the car Clyde parked nearby.

Last week, Clyde uploaded a Facebook video suggesting plans with a gun.

“I don’t know how much longer I have, but a storm is coming. However, I’m not without defense,” he said in the brief video, pulling out a rifle. “I’m fuckin’ ready. Let’s do it.”

On Saturday, he uploaded a picture of 10 gun magazines. On Sunday, he uploaded a picture of a sword with the caption “A modern gladius to defend the modern Republic.”

Image
Clyde, who claimed to be a former Army soldier and posted a picture of himself in an Army uniform, frequently posted memes that suggested familiarity with the far-right internet.

“When Libertarians and NatSocs meet on the battlefield during the Boogaloo,” read the caption of one meme, which shows the Power Rangers and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles teaming up. (“NatSoc” is short for “national socialist,” a Nazi ideology. )

In late May, he posted a meme about quitting meme groups that forbid bullying, transphobia, and racism. An April meme suggested “the solution to all of our nation’s political problems” by incorporating some libertarian and eco-friendly ideologies into far-right authoritarianism, represented by a green flag with a Nazi swastica in the middle.

A May 4 post defended Infowars founder Alex Jones for his claims about vast networks of pedophiles. Other posts suggested transphobic and anti-feminist views.

Multiple memes referenced the Confederate flag. In November, he posted a picture of a person wearing full medieval armor while holding a gun and an anime body pillow. While not inherently political, anime body pillows are a running joke in the 4chan-right. He also participated in medieval live action roleplaying, which is also apolitical but has a large fanbase on the far right.
