It would have been better if he'd had a word in private at the next opportunity, passed a note saying please stop touching me, or simply said please stop touching me. It was clearly not sexual touching in any case, some assholes just do that in conversation. To give a little public speech about how he's not a homo implying the other guy is coming on to him was unnecessary and unprofessional, and also tells you he's in the closet.
