House Dems want to root out evil anti-Semites

Speaker Nancy Pelosi and top Democrats will take floor action Wednesday in response to controversial remarks by Rep. Ilhan Omar about Israel, the second such rebuke of the freshman Democrat from party leaders in recent weeks.

Pelosi and other senior Democrats have drafted a resolution to address the controversy, which ballooned over the weekend following a public clash between Omar and senior Jewish lawmakers.

The resolution, which began circulating to members Monday night, comes after a backlash from top Democrats who accused Omar of anti-Semitism for referring to pro-Israel advocates’ “allegiance to a foreign country.”

The draft measure is four pages that largely details the history and recent rise of anti-Semitism in the U.S. but does not specifically name Omar, which had been an internal dispute among Democrats.

Instead, it condemns the "myth of dual loyalty," using the same language as top Democrats, like House Appropriations Chairwoman Nita Lowey, who have condemned Omar in recent days.

If the House moves ahead with the vote on Wednesday as planned, it would be an unprecedented public rebuke of Omar, who was sworn into office just over 60 days ago. Omar's office declined to comment about the Democratic resolution on Monday.

Dims are in a tough spot here. Omar and the chick from Michigan (Talib) are on record with anti Semitic remarks and associates. Dim leadership has to reign them in before the outspoken duo further embarrass the party. It's a tough spot as both are not only women, but colored women, which is one of the core demographics they are catering to at the moment. The goal would be to reign them in as quickly and with as little public fanfare as possible. Admittedly, that seems like a tough row to hoe as both are demonstrably outspoken and popular. At the very least it will be interesting to see if this squashes their fire or fans it.

I'd say Trump and his enablers are in a much tighter spot, but whatever keeps your mind off it.

It has always confounded me how quickly anyone that even questions congress members on both sides about their unflinching support for everything Israel are so quickly labeled anti-semitic...if congressmen and women were questioned for unflinching support or "allegiance" towards any other country there would not be such a label you could hurl at someone like anti-semitic...but since that label exists people think they can just fling it around at will.

Its a dumb move by Dems since has there been any resolutions condemning Trump for similar comments as they pertain to being "hateful"? He derps out divisive rhetoric on the regular and I guess people are too numb at this point to pretend to be outraged about it? Now you have a muslim woman making comments and all of a sudden people have balls to start calling shit out. And frankly I think the evangelical Christians get more outraged about this shit than Jewish members of Congress do at this point. These issues need to be called out without an instant smokescreen being launched every time about anti-semitism which is really just a mechanism to shut down all criticism of Israel and its policies.

I was just watching a panel discuss this and the use of the word "allegiance" seemed to be a focal point of (feigned) outrage. Care to enlighten me on what the deal is with that? I have only slightly followed this story so far. What is the history or the offense behind "allegiance"? I'm assuming some WWI or WWII thing I'm not versed on?

I think historically it was more a thing raised against the Catholics, who were supposed to owe allegiance to the pope. We oppressed them for centuries over here after leaving the roman church. In the US Kennedy got some shit for it as the first (and only) catholic president, earlier candidates would have got it worse. It's basically saying you can't be a real patriot because you put x above, or at least on a level with, your national loyalty. If there's more to it than that I haven't come across it.

OK so its viewed as anti-semitic to assume that Jewish Americans would put their allegiance to thier religion and Israel above their being US citizens....so I'd imagine if you took a certain angle it would be like assuming the Japanese-Americans that were here put their allegiance to being Japanese above their being American...and hence would be used as a means for separating them from the regular population. I get the argument even if I think its completely ridiculous. There is a spectrum of views amongst American Jews just as there is amongst any countries political parties. But once you're into getting defensive an calling people anti-semitic I guess the sky is the limit.

“In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person’s becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American … There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag … We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language … and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.”

My boss's MIL is full Hungarian, came over ("legally - I think") in the early 70s and they lived through WW2 in Europe. She can barely ask where the bathroom is, or where is my daughter in english. One day after a rant about mexicans and "learn the language" I popped off that his MIL couldnt speak english. His response was "They know she is white, and came over before all these foreigners are trying to get in."

She might be white, but damn... Hungarian women are like the greek/german and almost as bad as indians. They are a hairy sect of people. Not talking about the nethers, but they are almost "fuzzy" with dark hair and light mustaches.

Fuck Israel. This huge country is being held hostage to special interests, one of them being Israel. One good thing about the influx of Muslims is that it may serve to check the hold AIPAC and others have over us. Of course, a massive number of Muslims presents its own problems.
The ChiComs are good at dealing with them. Maybe we should bring a bunch of them over.
