The world is fucked

A 21 year old Kardashian is now the world's youngest "self made" billionaire. Being pretty and having a sister with a famously big ass has earnt this cretin more than any of us, except FSF who is super rich, could earn in a thousand lifetimes. Flashing her tits and walking about a bit is valued at millions of times the work of a police officer, teacher or doctor.

But sure, let's keep ignoring the 70% of americans who agree that maybe it's time to start taxing people who make more than ten million a year at a higher rate. They earned it.

It's the level of income that the proposed 70% rate would come in on, dumbass.

Good for her. None of that is based upon her income, it's based upon the valuation multiple on the revenue her company produces. There may not be any profits at all to tax.

Nice to see this sort of article is worthy of multiple posts. So much jealousy.

Yeah, but why ten million? Why not 20 or 5 or 50? Why is it that you all parrot the same exact figure?
That's the legislative proposal. It's the figure being proposed. You've probably blindly reposted some facebook memes on it yourself. Is there some part of that which confuses you?

Interesting. I didnt see the bill.

Why doesnt Great Britain tax their people at 70% above ten million pounds?
Politics. We peak at 45% over 150k, which is on the lower end for Europe. The US will probably get there before us since inequality is worse there and 70% already want it. The suppression of the supermajority has its limits. It's simply inevitable, as the gulf between the rich and poor enlarges a higher share has to come from the rich, you can't get blood from a stone. Eventually most jobs will be done by intelligent machines, at which point the owners of the factories producing intelligent machines either use them to exterminate the bulk of the population, share the profits through tax and universal income, or get killed in the revolution.

It's two different things. Does she make an absurd amount of money for nothing? Yes. Should she be punished for it?
I don't know that I've ever seen the little twat. Who is paying her? Do they think it's a good deal for them?

You do know that our system is already tiered, right?
I like the idea of closing some loopholes rather than raising rates to make sure the Super rich are actually paying the higher rate they're already supposed to be paying. Or maybe having Amazon and the like actually pay some taxes?

Taxes aren't punishment, they're what fund things like the military, public education, healthcare, roads, infrastructure etc. Her role is basically marketing, it's like her little sister and that Fyre Festival fuckup, attach a kardashian to the ads and you massively boost sales, even if it turns out there's nothing to sell. It is a good deal for the people really running the place, they aren't selling anything of actual value it's more like art, it's worthless nothing identical in every way to the worthless nothing sold by the next company with less effective marketing. It's worth what people will pay for it. The people working under her get their wages, the investors get their returns. She remains someone with a fat ass and famous name making many multiples of the lifetime earnings of workers who actually do something. You don't see how that's a fucked up side effect of modern society?
If we were paying people of value to the world to do things of value for the world then that's where the bulk of income taxation would have to come from. Since we are in fact paying people with fat asses for having fat asses thousands of times more than we're paying people who actually do things, that's where the bulk of taxation has to come from. I genuinely don't see why this is controversial. You guys need to raise 20% above what you actually tax just to meet current spending levels. This worthless stain on humanity can pay the tax bill of a thousand teachers without noticing. It's a messed up situation.

I am aware it is tiered, the tiers in the tax code no longer match the tiers in reality. We're talking about taxing people earning over ten million dollars and the maximum earning recognised in the tax code is only 600,000. There are new categories of ridiculousness that need to be recognised.

Loopholes should be closed in addition to rates being be raised. I'd also agree that amazon needs to pay more taxes, though perhaps you'd disagree with my assessment that the only way that is possible is through having congress use the commerce clause to limit tax shopping nationwide. You're a hard working small businessman, do you think you should pay the same tax rate as Kylie Jenner does for having a fat ass and earning thousands of times more than you without actually doing anything?

People who better themselves and work hard should live better lives than those who don't. That is not the situation we are discussing.

Taxes can be punitive. I prefer taxes have no loopholes. No idea how that is achieved.
Yeah, it's fucked up that we in the comfortable West value celebrities. I don't, but most of us do.
It's fucked up how we have to have the new thing. It's fucked up how we can't educate our kids, but money isn't going to solve that problem. Lots of fucked up things.
I'm not defending her, but you could tax the super rich 100% and it wouldn't be a drop in the bucket. Military, entitlements, and interest are our demons.

All taxes are a drop in the bucket, it's a big bucket. Taxing people earning over ten million dollars more would pay for hundreds of schools. A small amount in the grand scheme of the trillion dollar trump deficit perhaps, but still hundreds of schools. And at the cost of what? Is Kylie going to take her fat ass over to the Bahamas and refuse to earn anything for simply having a fat ass rather than earn tens of millions for wiggling it around in the US? Sell her company? A higher and higher share of the income is going to people on the top rather than people actually generating it. It's not sustainable, and the people on the top don't actually get it if they aren't there to get it. Taxing them at 70% after the fist ten million still leaves them better off than you'll ever be.
