A WWII Bunker
Fort de la Cité d’Alet, St Malo – Roman to WW2 German fortifications.
The most striking things that you will see at the Cité d’Alet are the armoured steel turrets along what is a very picturesque walk around the promontory. They are literally peppered by shell fire. But the vast majority of the shell fire is not as a result of the battle which raged around St Malo for nearly two weeks.
No it’s a demonstration of the strength of these turrets, as after the battle, the Americans brought up various tanks and other anti-tank weapons into range and fired at them to see how much punishment they would take. It is incredible to see that virtually all the hits show shells bouncing off or merely embedding themselves into the armoured steel without penetrating it.

Re: CQ's Military thread
Tons of reasons/ Prosecutors agreed to not seek a life sentence (just many years) if he pleaded guilty to avoid a trial that would possibly expose US secrets. He did plead guilty but had some conditions attached that he broke before sentencing (gave interviews to the media, etc). Pissed off judge through out the plea deal and threw the book at him i.e. Life Sentence. Tons of appeals on that plus worldwide pressure to release him for decades. In the mid-80's the relationship between US- Israel was chilly to say the least. That had changed since. They admitted over the decades that he was their spy, then that they had paid him, then a formal apology. Lots of other stuff I'm sure.

Re: CQ's Military thread
If the Israeli don't just forget about him it makes it easier for them to get others to spy for them.
One could safely assume Israel gave him some kind of promise to try to get him out.

Re: CQ's Military thread
Well, if you think about it, he did serve a "life sentence". Parole possible after 30. Then his parole stated he couldn't leave the US for 5 years. He was paroled in 2015 or so and then did his 5.

Re: CQ's Military thread
Israel absolutely did and did so over how many Presidential Admins over 35 years? From the US point of view this whole time is a double edge sword. First, he fell "through the cracks" and was in no way qualified to have access to the materials he was passing along. In fact bells and whistles were going off from the moment he was hired. That's on the US Intel's ledger. Second, the things he passed along were all extremely valuable and damaging. But one that he did pass along to the Israelis was the Big One. The "Holy Grail". The entire documentation of the NSA's spying global communications encryption technology. It's why every Defense head from Casper Weinberger (Reagan) to Leon Panetta (Obama) has been vocal (to say the least) about granting any leniency.

Pollard and his wife, Esther, landed at Ben Gurion Airport outside of Tel Aviv in the early hours of Wednesday morning on a private jet provided by American Jewish casino-magnate and philanthropist, Sheldon Adelson.
Adelson and his wife Miriam have spent at least $180 million—a record-breaking sum—to back President Trump and the GOP ahead of this year’s election.

Re: CQ's Military thread
So, what does that have to do with anything? He was paroled when Obama was President. Nobody makes any comments about that because none of that has anything to do with any of this.
