Indiana Jones and Lightyear bombed because they were just bad movies. Like, really bad movies. Indiana Jones should never have even been made. I don't know what the fuck they were thinking!
Sometimes studios make bad movies. It happens.

That said, "The Little Mermaid" was the 7th highest grossing movie of 2023. It made $600 million.
And they made the mermaid a black chick.

we seem to be stuck in a time warp of remakes. there's lots of unique and new movies, but there is also a swamp of re-makes. tv is unwatchable with all of the remade game shows and 20+ seasonth of some reality show or talent show. this is not a political problem. its an entertainment production problem.

Totally agree. But the basics of the entire entertainment business model going back forever is to sell tickets and stay away from politics when you can. De Niro- "Fuck Trump" to wild applause. Congrats you just alienated 50% of your audience. Could be somebody doing the same stupid ass shit on the right. Just like these companies going "woke" over the last decade. STFU and put out your "product" without all the BS and if it's good, you may be pleasantly surprised to find people will actually buy a lot of it and you just saved yourself a lot of angst and drama.
