How many people here work out on a regular basis?

All the news from the peanut gallery and where all the nasty trash talk fails miserably.

How many people here work out on a regular basis?

#1

Post by B-Tender »

I never did a lot of lifting in my youth. I ran a marathon at the age of 37. I'm about to turn 53, and have been lifting regularly for the last two years. 3 days a week for about 45-60 minutes. I am able to bench and dead lift much more now than ever before.

Anyone else still putting some work in?

When I was a younger man I fucked around in boxing and Krav Maga for about 10 years. But I gave it up when my wife went back to work (we had two kids). Then my job became my workout.

Now I'm too old to give a shit.

Swinging the hammer and gardening right now, in a couple more weeks I'll get back to lifting again.

I am again after neck surgery. 3 to 6 days a week. About an hour. No where near my peak fitness.

I'm guessing you have always been pretty strong? Have you done any cardio training since leaving the Corps?

I'm guessing it's even more important for you to exercise post surgery?

Yes. Gained too much weight. Don't like the way I feel.

I do some light lifting 3 days a week. Nothing too strenuous but enough to keep things toned.
I went over 200 lbs on the scale one day and that was a bridge too far. I started eating smaller portions and the 3 days a week lifting schedule.
It's amazing how just that little bit has changed the way I feel. I'll be happy when I get back to 190-ish which is about what I should be.

I never thought 3 days a week would make much of a difference, but over time it does.

Just push ups, running and swimming for me due to various aches/pains/surgeries. Unfortunately, I'm working 12 hour shifts pretty much 5 days a week these days, so there hasn't been much time to exercise and I've got the gut to prove it. This gig is over in 21 months and then I will be going into semi-retirement in sunny Florida where I will have a more normal schedule that will allow for regular exercise.

I feel you on that. During tax season I work 7 days a week. It is a goddamn challenge to keep it going. A lot of times I cut my workouts down to 45 minutes, and if I'm too far behind at the office I'll skip a day to catch up.

Whenever I can but treadmills are out of the question since I you're my minuscus on one years ago. My favorite cardio is swimming. I could regularly do 2 miles but no regular pool access any more. My main cardio is actually that I'll spend a couple hours at a time at the anvil with three projects in the forge rotating nonstop. Hell Wednesday night I had 2 pieces of 5/8ths in there and rotated on making leaves for my last batch of roses, which I should post they've been selling like crazy. In the Corps I was an endurance monster. 6 to 12 mile runs weren't a problem at a 8 to 9 minute Mile pace.
That being said I really got into weight lifting about 10 years ago and tried to stay with it.

Yeh, did CrossFit for 8yrs until recently, now I've swapped over to group fitness 4-5 times week.

I was one of the lucky ones who got heart problems from the covid jab, So the meds I'm on now lower my peak heart rate by ~30%, so no more CrossFit for me

CrossFit is no joke. For people without injury limitations it is a great place.

I think shoulder injuries are the worst.

Crossfit was created by orthopedic surgeons trying to drum up more business.

Yeh, I enjoyed it. Got injured a few times, but that comes with the territory in competitive sports
