Why? You know there is government corruption, waste and fraud. We all know it. We all know that government can be better at what it's supposed to do. We all know that the government was (is) bloated and fat. Elon is the personal trainer. The government is the tubby guy that needs to shape up.
In a vacuum you would be correct but he makes a lot of money w/ government contracts.

Sticking with your gym analog, it would be like hiring the guy who invented crossfit to be able to regulate normal gyms and circuit training gyms (assuming they are all funded by taxpayer money) along with everything else funded by the government.

Maybe he is right but it's definitely a conflict of interest.
My understanding from everything I have read is that Elon investigates and makes suggestions of which and the current administration either decides to cut or keep. Apparently, some of the suggestions show blatant waste and fuckery.
I haven’t seen any reports of waste.

What I have seen and heard are people that haven’t been vetted accessing sensitive information that could potentially be compromised
Then you're not paying attention or seeing what you only want to see.
