Quickly identifying which breaker to shut off. 200 amp panels are becoming the norm here a and I hate waiting for somebody to flip through the whole panel to find the circuit I'm working on.

I have a tester that plugs into outlets but a lamp could be used as well, the breakers should be labeled but aren't always correct and if they are not labeled having someone flip them till you find the correct one is the only method.

I got pretty lucky. The guy who owned our house before us was a completly anal MFer. He labeled the heck out of the breakers. Have yet to find an incorrect one.

In newer houses it isn't always an issue, older house that have had additions and more wiring added for retrofitted heaters and appliances the breakers can get moved and jumbled.

I use a Klein ET-300 for when I need to find a breaker at a jobsite. I made some adapters up to check lighting and 240v circuits, as well. About $40 at Home Depot, less online. Make sure the circuits you are testing dont have any kind of noise filters built into them, as they'll mute the signal.

If close enough and loud enough a radio will let you do it by yourself.

A circuit tester and a long assed extension cord works too.

Too bad. Robert Pudge seems like he would have a lot of sound input around here.
