The note is from an individual Airbnb renter, not any news source or other organization. Airbnb specifically published a list of political donations made by the lobby to NY politicians.

Airbnb has been a big disruptor. There is a lot going on politcally about whether they should be able to operate unfettered, or whether they should be regulated, and if so, to what extent?. If you are a homeowner, and now more than half your neighbors are renting out their homes for most of the year, and now your home value is being affected, you may not like airbnb very much. If you are the one renting your home out, you are enjoying the extra cash. If you own hotels, you feel the threat. It will be interesting to see how it shakes out.
