imagine how hot people were all of the time. Any time i see some show about the old times, 1700's, 1800's, etc I can't help but notice how many freaking layers of clothes they wear and how hard it would be to keep them clean and ready to wear all of the time. think what suits cost and men used to wear them every freaking day to work.

Interesting. Down around the Houston area, nobody but white folk used regular mayo. For black folks It was either Kraft sandwich spread or Miracle Whip. I think it had something to do with spoilage, those two things last longer sitting on the counter. And for fries and onion rings it was vinegar. Malt vinegar by implication, since a person never ate white vinegar, it was for cleaning and pickling only. Other kinds of vinegar were simply out of the question.

Mom never used jarred mayo, she thought it tasted nasty. Either she used Miracle Whip or made her own mayo. Easy to make with a hand mixer, or an electric mixer with a single beater, takes about a minute or so. A *lot* better than jarred by far.

It's hard to beat a good club sandwich with extra mayo.
