there really aren't wishy washy R's. There is a giant split in the republican party and has been for about 8 years now. You have the MAGA Trump republicans (which dominate the House) and you have the old school McConnel republicans that think the MAGA's are too radical. The two sides generally agree in principle, its just that the MAGA side always push it a little farther than the McConnel side can go along with. The MAGA side seem to refuse to negotiate and compromise anything. The McConnel side still try to govern like the old days where you had to negotiate and compromise because once this deal is done another will come along and you can't burn every bridge every time.

The Senate’s bipartisan border bill is kaput, and Mitch McConnell isn’t being coy about who’s responsible for the whole bizarre debacle.

“It was my side that wanted to tackle the border issue. We started it,” the Republican minority leader told reporters Tuesday. And, of course, it was Republicans who finished it.

After demanding major changes to border policy as the price for more aid to Ukraine, GOP lawmakers backpedaled from the compromise measure amid a Trump-led conservative backlash. Even Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., who last week slammed his colleagues for not having the “courage” to cross Trump, said he was a “no” vote.

The deal’s demise has left the GOP’s handful of bipartisan dealmakers sounding dazed. The bill’s lead GOP negotiator, Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla., told reporters he felt as if he’d been hit by a bus that also backed up over him. A “deeply disappointed” Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah quipped, “Politics used to be the art of the possible. Now it’s the art of the impossible.”

As for the mood among Democrats? “How can you trust any Republican right now?” said Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., his party’s point man on the deal. “They told us what to do. We followed their instructions to the letter and then they pulled the rug out from under us in 24 hours.”

Republicans have been accusing the Biden administration of doing nothing about the so-called "border crisis". Yet when they were given essentially what they wanted, they turned into little children and refused it. Republicans do not want to govern, they want to rule.

Our support cant be limitless. Its entirely possible to wish the Ukrainians success while prioritizing real problems here at home. Isnt our border more important than Ukraine's?
Arent homelessness, opioid addiction, mental health, veterans health etc. just as, if not more important, than Ukraine?
I dont mind lending a helping hand but the war in Ukraine has become a bottomless pit while we have real problems here. Not to mention reports that we are basically funding the Ukrainian economy and millions upon millions of our tax dollars cant be accounted for.
