No. Childbirth was deadly but mainly for the Mom. It was childhood diseases (chicken pox, Rubella, measles, etc.) that was the great killer of children before the age of 5. They had no idea of the causes or any way to prevent them.

So, if you have almost half of children dying before the age of 5, you better have a lot of adults living pretty long if you want your Average life span to be over 30. See how that "Average" thing works.
Talks about Neanderthals. I never said anything about Neanderthals. Experts have no idea what the population of Homo Sapiens was 50,000 years ago. Didn't even know Neanderthals existed until 100 years ago.

It's not cantilevered? No strong tie strap on the first joist. Hard to say if they are on the others. No way that deck would hold the roof without at least straps. You would see it dipping.
You can tell from the chair set up that people are hanging out on that motherfucker. Probably smoking rips.
And no one that could build that roof would uses 1x4 as posts.
