i love strawberries, but i honestly don't think i have ever heard of a strawberry pie. strawberry shortcake, yes.
Florida is the strawberry capital of the South, centered in Plant City. If your strawberries don't come from California or Mexico, they'll come from Florida. By the way, Pasadena TX used to have large strawberry fields before the refineries replaced them, and you can still find feral plants growing here and there around the place that grow tiny but still tasty fruits.

I mention that because when I first moved here to Florida, I'd never had strawberry pie, either. Then my then wife and I attended the Plant City strawberry festival and had some. And by "some" I mean we pigged down probably three pies between us. Good stuff! It's essentially a raw fruit pie. The strawberries can be left whole, or cut into littler pieces, then either it can be cooked, or refrigerated with a gelatin sugar syrup. Either way it's a damn tasty pie!

There is a town (Portland) on the TN/KY border that is known for its strawberries. They have an annual strawberry festival and all that stuff. We bake it and refrigerate it. Then we eat it with the mandatory slathering of whipped cream.

Google Shoney’s Strawberry Pie recipe. You won’t regret it.

That indeed makes a lovely pie! My wife's mother had some growing beside the walkway at her house in Davenport IA, enough grew for a couple of pies every year. As an ol' southern boy, I'd happily place rhubarb pie up against a Texas pecan pie any time.

The rhubarb selection here is quite thin. We’re were watching the British baking show and decided that we should try it because we never had it. We tried a strawberry rhubarb pie recipe that was good.

They have to be home made, not store bought. And not no canned minced meat or package candied fruit, but completely from scratch. But scratch made makes either considerably more difficult to prepare. I know from experience... :|

I think pecan pie is dependent on the quality of the pecans. The best pecans that I have had were from Leonard’s Farm in TX and this place down in South GA.

It is good stuff if it is cooked with the meat (ham, beef).

Yea, it has to be made from fresh from the shell pecans. Raw pecans start to get skunky with a weird aftertaste if they sit in the cabinet or on the store shelf too long. Pecan pie is best if you live near a pecan farm or have your own pecan tree. Big ol' honking ones, too, the size of your thumb.
