Consider this a hint that hell might be getting a bit cold, if not freezing: I agree with you on that. There is no point to it, and I'm not sure our Native Americans were all that bothered by it, either. Maybe some were, but there's always a pissed-off person in the crowd, upset just to be upset.

Consider the issue of Mt Denali vs Mt McKinley. Most Alaskans much prefer the name Denali even as a so-called red state. It's their state, why can't they get it called what they prefer? Yet Ohio as the birthplace of McKinley, and somehow folks including Trump are more concerned about the feelings of Ohioans than the people of the state where the damn mountain actually sits. Don't we have better things to get done? That's why it's a distraction like the "Gulf of Mexico/America".

Here's another distraction, if more state level: renaming a major Florida roadway. It's had this name for almost 100 years, everyone knows it as its current name. It's descriptive, going back to days when there wasn't much between Tampa and Miami, when the state was still trying to drain the Everglades. And renaming it is purely a distraction, when we have a whole lot better issues in this state to address. The Republican Party has had over a quarter century to address those issues with very little actually to show for it to the benefit of the average Floridan. Yet over and over, residents vote the same useless politicians back in office to continue to do the same useless shit for "reasons". I fear this will become the same outcome for our federal government.

How about this compromise: draw a straight line from where the Rio Grande (Rio Bravo in Mexico) spills into the Gulf to the western point of Key West, then call everything above that line Gulf of America, and leave it as the Gulf of Mexico south of that line? Or better yet, focus on more important issues that concern the average American, say the price of eggs that Vance made such a big issue about during the campaign?

I've been to half a dozen Redskins home games and I've seen thousands of Native Americans at them. I've partied with Native Americans at tailgate parties at the stadium.
It sure didn't seem to bother them much.
