a friend of mine fell off a water tower he was painting one time. he lived but never walked again. He was the first guy I knew that had a truck you drove with only your hands.

another friend of mine's family owned the cotton gin in town. and the guy that fell off the water tower's dad worked at the gin. one day the gin caught on fire and fires were a big thing in a small town. everybody went down to watch the gin burning. when i got there, there was pretty good crowd and the town's only fire truck was there. It was more smoke than fire and the volunteer firemen didn't really know what to do. the smoke was thick, black smoke. and this cotton gin had a big duct pipe that moved the seed over to a chute that dropped them into trucks for feed. The seed that was packed into that duct was smoldering and that guy's dad was the only one that understood how things were connected in the gin. so he takes a fire hose and ties it around his waist and goes up into the gin. he was gone for what seemed like a long time. maybe 15 minutes or more. then we start to see some water dripping out the chute that the seed usually comes out. then a little more water. then some seed starts dropping. more and more and then it just kind of blows out and that guy's dad comes down out of the chute, covered in soot and cotton seed. and that put it out. the gin was saved and everyone lived happily ever after. j bird passes the stick.
