The Padres now have $1,178,000,000 in guaranteed money on their books.8-TrackJones wrote: ↑Wed Mar 01, 2023 4:05 am Padres extend Machado to 11-year deal worth $350 million.

They DFA'd Flexen. May hope that he'll agree to go to triple A after going through waivers.8-TrackJones wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2023 7:41 pm The Mets acquire Gott and Flexen from Mariners. Uncle Steve trying for that wildcard.

Mets had Flexen before and he was terr8ble. I think the Mariners packaged him in that deal to get rid of him. Mets wanted Gott so they took Flexen as well.FSchmertz wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2023 10:22 pmThey DFA'd Flexen. Can Gott be a reliever? That's the Mets major weakness.
P.S. Nevermind, looked it up, Gott is a reliever

Will they move Soto or Hader?
Soto is on a one year $23M contract, and Hader is one year $14M,saltydog wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2023 8:57 pmWho would be willing to take on their $$?8-TrackJones wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2023 8:18 pm Padres DFA Nelson Cruz...

Soto has one more year of control and will definitely get a bigger haul this summer than next. As much as I would rather have Ohtani, Soto is raking again. Having him and Tatis for the foreseeable future is hard to give up on. I hope they hold on to him.B-Tender wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2023 8:59 pmSoto is on a one year $23M contract, and Hader is one year $14M,saltydog wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2023 8:57 pmWho would be willing to take on their $$?8-TrackJones wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2023 8:18 pm Padres DFA Nelson Cruz...

I'm starting to think Preller needs to go. The Padres need to develop their own players at some point.Burn1dwn wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2023 10:13 pmSoto has one more year of control and will definitely get a bigger haul this summer than next. Hader is more expendable, especially if Suarez comes back soon (and strong). I would rather they sign Kim long term than Hader.
I feel like he lacks the patience to put a plan in place and keep the club successful year in and year out. He seems to have more misses than hits on trades (maybe that's normal). He did strike gold in picking up Tatis and convinced Manny to sign a few years ago. But overall my feelings on him are mixed and I wouldn't be upset to try a different approach.
The Dodgers are tough to keep up with.Burn1dwn wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2023 11:06 pmI feel like he lacks the patience to put a plan in place and keep the club successful year in and year out. San Diego is a small media market. St. Louis(most years) and Tampa would probably be better role models to emulate.saltydog wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2023 11:29 pmThe Dodgers are tough to keep up with.Burn1dwn wrote: ↑Wed Jul 05, 2023 11:06 pmI feel like he lacks the patience to put a plan in place and keep the club successful year in and year out. The Reds knew what they were doing by giving him Eric Davis' old number.Reservoir Dog wrote: ↑Sun Jul 09, 2023 1:54 pm At the end of the 2022 MLB regular season, Jon Berti (MIA) led the league with 41 stolen bases.

I'm thinking those bigger bags are having an effect.![]()
Bonus note: Elly De La Cruz (Cin), who was called up on June 6th, piled up 16 stolen bases in his first month. He's on pace for 66.
I think it has more to do with the limit on pick-off attempts. Especially if they throw over twice. Then it's green-light time for anyone with ability. Nearly impossible to stop the runner then, unless they're idiots.saltydog wrote: ↑Sun Jul 09, 2023 5:40 pmThe Reds knew what they were doing by giving him Eric Davis' old number.Reservoir Dog wrote: ↑Sun Jul 09, 2023 1:54 pm At the end of the 2022 MLB regular season, Jon Berti (MIA) led the league with 41 stolen bases.

The bigger bags don't hurt but the disengagement limit defintely gives a big advantage to the runners.FSchmertz wrote: ↑Sun Jul 09, 2023 6:15 pmI think it has more to do with the limit on pick-off attempts. you would have to think that's the difference. that's the most impact 4.5 inches has had in a long time.Reservoir Dog wrote: ↑Sun Jul 09, 2023 1:54 pm At the end of the 2022 MLB regular season, Jon Berti (MIA) led the league with 41 stolen bases.

Holy crap! Shutouts happen. But losing two in a row by a 0-1 score has gotta be brutal. So brutal it causes you to lose the 3rd game 0-3.Reservoir Dog wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 1:38 pm The Cincinnati Reds have now been shut out 3 games in a row.
During those 3 games, they had a total of 8 hits.
That hasn't happened in 130 years.
