Not a fan of his cinematic work (Paul Blartt anyone?), but this seems poignant. He probably lives in a Blue State:
Kevin James is actually quite talented. I'm not much of a fan of his sitcoms, or some of his movie roles either. He does a significant amount of writing behind the scenes that is rather funny and creative. He hit a home run with this real simple, low cost, short film.

Thousands of hours of practise
when i first went to college, i was pretty good at pool. and the guys i started running around with loved to shoot pool, but they weren't that great at it. not long after i met them i was playing a guy and i had made a few shots and he said, "you know, my dad told me that a good pool player is the sign of a mis-spent childhood".

Haven't played pool in years. Kinda miss it.
i grew up in a really small town, but our town was wet so we had a lot of bars and little honky tonk places. pool tables were everywhere.

My problem was I was a wizard on expert shots that amazed the spectators until I got into the 2nd round of beers. Never could figure out the connection

my problem was getting hustled by hustlers. even when i knew that's what they were doing, i couldn't resist trying one more game to beat them. and we had a bunch of hustlers come through town.

shit, who knows? not more than i made, because i didn't have any money to lose. young, dumb, and cocky. i was an easy mark for them. but i could play all night to win $20 and then lose it all in 10 min to one of those guys. and half the time they would talk me into meeting them the next day so I could to try to win it back.

I've been watching Michael Palin's Pole to Pole. It's from around 91 because he goes through the USSR right before the collapse. Over about 8 episodes he travels from the North Pole to the South Pole using as little air travel as possible. Pretty interesting actually. He has an around the world show also that is older I think.
