Interesting. Of the 2,100 homicides, how many are by domestic violence, and how many are by street violence?CHEEZY17 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 08, 2023 3:06 amLiterally a 5 second Google.Reservoir Dog wrote: ↑Wed Nov 08, 2023 2:55 amhttps://www.nytimes.com/interactive/202 ... stics.htmlThere is no comprehensive data describing the nature of each fatal shooting in America — the number of children who died in circumstances related to domestic violence or gang-related fights or accidental shootings.
"Every year, more than 3,500 children and teens—defined as infants through age 19—are shot and killed in the U.S., and another 15,000 are wounded in shootings, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) data from 2016 to 2020, which was analyzed by Everytown—a nonprofit group that advocates for tougher gun laws and actions to address gun violence.
Of those deaths, 2,100 are homicides—most of them the result of either domestic violence or the kind of street violence that claimed Hadiya’s life.
On average, 1,200 children a year die by suicide with a gun. Another 130 children and teens per year die from unintentional shootings. On average, fewer than 35 children and teens are killed as a result of mass shootings a year—even though, for obvious and good reasons, those tragedies often receive lots of attention.

Lets split the difference to be fair: 1050 of each. Take 1050 off of the total referenced above and we get 2450 which would knock it out of the top spot.Reservoir Dog wrote: ↑Wed Nov 08, 2023 3:14 amInteresting. So if you subtract 1050 deaths due to street violence, leaving only 1050 child deaths due to domestic abuse, then child deaths by firearms drops to #2.CHEEZY17 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 08, 2023 3:41 amLets split the difference to be fair: 1050 of each. "A total of 3,058 teenagers ages 13-19 died in motor vehicle crashes in 2021. This is 65 percent fewer than in 1975 and 11 percent more than in 2020. About 2 of every 3 teenagers killed in crashes in 2021 were males"
You really want to make that argument?
i'm not making an argument. i'm all for doing whatever will work to keep these nuts from getting guns. Let me know when there is something to vote on.saltydog wrote: ↑Wed Nov 08, 2023 5:22 pmYou really want to make that argument?
It doesn't have to be just children, it could be the Tree of Life Synagogue, a bowling alley and neighboring bar.
Why are we continuously making excuses that renders gun violence "acceptable" in society? THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN IN OTHER COUNTRIES AT THE FREQUENCY IT DOES IN THE US.
Completely loony.
Well, maybe we can address this problem that actually exists. How was election night for the GOP last night anyways? Was Glen Youngkin coronated yet?Animal wrote: ↑Wed Nov 08, 2023 5:51 pmi'm not making an argument. i'm all for doing whatever will work to keep these nuts from getting guns. This is what some of you would vote for.Donald Trump and his allies have begun mapping out specific plans for using the federal government to punish critics and opponents should he win a second term, with the former president naming individuals he wants to investigate or prosecute and his associates drafting plans to potentially invoke the Insurrection Act on his first day in office to allow him to deploy the military against civil demonstrations.
Yet, it’s exactly what ShitShow is doing to political enemies. So yeah, fuck offdot wrote: ↑Mon Nov 13, 2023 9:45 pm Salty reminds me of what happened then and what he wants to do should he win again.
