You can describe your representative democracy as a republic too, since it is both. If you are struggling with this one just consult a dictionary. There's no point arguing what words mean, that is what a dictionary is for. Look up the word, and if you disagree you're an ignorant moron. That simple. The failing fathers drew the distinction between direct democracy and a republic aka representative democracy, and it's been confusing dimwits over there ever since. There's always some moron who doesn't understand what the words mean and assumes they are mutually exclusive.Biker wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 6:49 pmOr, as we call it here in the US, a republic. It's plunging because of the brexit mess, which you support and I don't, dimwit. I am being proven right by the passage of time, whereas you are being proven wrong. Also entirely unrelated to you not knowing what words mean.Biker wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 7:29 pmComing from someone who lives in a failing nation, I'll just chuckle a bitAnalHamster wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 7:13 pmYou can describe your representative democracy as a republic too, since it is both. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/vol ... democracy/Both today and in the Framing era, “democracy” has been generally understood to include representative democracy as well as direct democracy.
....
But there is no basis for saying that the United States is somehow “not a democracy, but a republic."
No, when you claimed to think it would be great for the UK I always assumed you were doing your weird thing where you lie to yourself and everyone else like when you claim to be a democrat. Are you admitting it now on this one?Biker wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 7:38 pmOh, you think I was pulling for Brexit because it would help the pound? You are as ever ignorant on economic topics. All forcing a no deal through means is we have to negotiate the same trade deal from a weaker position, with the same impossible problem on the Irish border. The reason fear of a no deal brexit is depressing the pound is that it will be disastrous for trade and cause a prolonged recession. I actually doubt even Johnson believes no deal is the way to go, he just thinks persuading the Eu he will go through with it means they'll cave. Thing is, they simply can't. If we walk away with all the good bits of the EU and leave the liabilities behind, it would just collapse.Biker wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 7:48 pmI think its more anxiety than reality. The world doesn't care but here you are in not one but two threads about Brexit showing just how little you care.
It's not just inappropriate. It most likely is a violation of the Constitution. But that doesn't bother the righties at all.CHEEZY17 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 04, 2019 2:26 am It's Inappropriate? We wish he wouldnt do stuff like this? He does himself no favors when doing these things? Someone should tell him that this kind of thing shouldnt happen? Believe me: we know it looks bad and that there is no defense of it. Sorry to break it to the Lefties though: stuff like this is not gonna all of a sudden make us vote for Biden or Warren.
You will have to cite where that is outlined in the Constitution...spudoc wrote: ↑Wed Sep 04, 2019 3:10 amIt's not just inappropriate. It most likely is a violation of the Constitution.
