A circular arguement. Everyone is bombarded on a daily basis with suggestion and rules. You can't tell me the fuckups of the world have never heard don't show up till work drunk or you'll get fired. That doesn't stop them. You can try mentoring them, showing them what is needed, how to be a good employee but so far I've stuck out doing it. One some the other showed up drunk and pissed that he'd done nothing wrong after cusssing it customers. There are no real consequences. There isn't the thought of, I need to work or my family will starve. When I get fired the unemployment benefits last 6 months, then food stamps and welfare. Unfortunately by employable years, you're pretty much set on whatever path you're on. Its very hard to teach a 45yo person a whole new mindset. You've gotta get that shit done when they are kids and early teens. Set them up for success, not fix the damage after the fact.
