From what I read, mainly a couple of things. Because of it's location, compared to what an Island like that normally sees, it only averages 14 inches of rain per year- lot of sun days. Mainly though, it's the history. After Cook discovered the Islands (and was murdered there), lots of contact with Europeans, American whalers etc over the next century. During most of that time, that town was the Royal capital of all Hawaii. Burial site of Kings and Queens. Lots of history.
