i have some good friends that are all shop, building, tool type guys. we are always talking about the latest find at harbor freight. you can get some good stuff there. just don't look for anything heavy duty or complicated.

To be honest, I've never heard of harbor freight. But if you have a jack stand that's rated at say 4 tons, those "teeth" are kinda the key to the whole concept, right?. Kind of like the whole "you had one job to do" joke.

Harbor Freight sells neighbor tools. You know, those tools you loan to neighbors you figure will abuse or lose them.

I always heard if you buy from harbor freight and use it enough that it breaks that's the tool you then buy quality.

that is sort of the philosophy that i am currently using. If i need some specialty tool for one purpose, i look at harbor freight. if i use it and figure i need it and its a bit flimsy, then i can look for a quality one. there are just so many tools that you don't need very often. its hard to spend a lot of money on a heat gun if you can't even remember another time you needed one. and you can get one at harbor freight for about $10.

i was talking to these buddies of mine during hunting season and we were talking about tools. and it just seems so stupid that every one of us has a half inch impact driver. a 3/4 inch impact driver, a scroll saw, a paint sprayer, blah blah blah blah. even to the size of our shops. We were talking about how much money we would save if we all retired on the same piece of land and each built a house and we all shared one big shop. Of course, there weren't any wives there to chime in one any of this.

well that's reassuring. their craftsmanship has only gotten better over the years. do the instructions tell you how many mattresses to place around it when you lift your bike up?

Reading some online forums over the years, there are two recommendations that routinely pop up: Change the wheel chock, and change all the fasteners to quality grade 8 components. I'd carefully inspect the welds, too.
