we got fucked because clinton deregulated the banks. granted people made bad purchases but allowing banks to get involved with risk it s what is the problem. the glass-steagall act that clinton fucked overi s the root of the issue. when he signed the gramm-leach -bliley act it basically repealed the provisions that kept banks from risk.

Pickup trucks don't depreciate like a car does
That may be true but if you're taking 7-8 years to pay off a vehicle you overspent.
Not necessarily, I took a 60 month loan on my camaro and paid it off in 39 months. I just wanted leeway on the minimum payment. If you have good credit and credit union like PenFed the interest rates aren't high.

If you buy a $87,000 truck 84-96 is your friend. But nobody should be taking that length of a loan on a Camry or a Durango.
7-8 year loan for a constantly depreciating asset?
Yeah, but you have a truck and you are out making money with it. Not everything needs to gain value.

I'm sure I'll probably always go with a 1-2 yr old vehicle and pay cash for it. To each their own, but I find I make better vehicle decisions this way, and don't buy more vehicle than I need.

why would you pay cash when you can take out an 8 year loan?
What an idiot.

many people take advantage of low interest rates because if they have the cash they can invest it and make more than what the loan charges. But everyone's situation is different.

I always look for a 2-3 year old vehicle and pay cash for it. The only new car I have ever purchased was a Honda CRV I bought for my wife 4 years ago. I also paid cash for that. I've never had a car loan in my life.

wow! what investment do you have to put cash into that pays a higher interest rate than a car loan?

I'm basically doing this with my house right now. I was going to lode up and pay it down as quickly as possible, but with my new rate sub 3%, I'm making sure I maximize my retirement contributions first, and then putting the rest on the house.

Exactly, depends on what you prioritize. Having the title to your car (or house) might not be as important as other things.

There are zero interest loans offered at times, even your checking account technically pays more interest than you pay in the loan.

The problem with 0% loans is you have to go with the captive financier and forfeit all incentives. Most people are better off taking the manufacturer incentives and paying the loan off early.

Look, if you want to get an 8 year loan on a vehicle, and you plan to use that vehicle to produce income. and you can get a zero percent loan. and you take an equal amount of cash to the purchase price and put it into an IRA. and you are certain that your current tax bracket is equal or higher than your tax bracket will be when you retire. Then its ok.

So the answer to your original question is that it's actually not hard to have an investment that pays better interest than you'll pay on your car loan, huh?

The old Flumper wasn't retarded. You don't have an argument here. If you pay zero percent interest on a car loan and any investment that pays anything above that, even a checking account paying .1%, there's still a gain there, it's indisputable. And that's not even taking into consideration the lower value of the future dollars you are using to pay the loan.
