I remember when Alicia hit Houston in '83, a hurricane that went from a slight puff of wind into a bad Cat 3 in about a day. The eye went directly over us, trees bent in one direction, the straight up for about an hour, then bent in the opposite direction after the eye passed. What was so fascinating (and the point of this long introduction) is the colored lightning. Not white, but red, green, and blue, some even said orange and yellow. And the color would change between lightning strikes. And the strikes were constant, almost continuous colored lightning. That was the most asked question to the local weather bureau after the hurricane, why all the colors, and the bureau just didn't know.
