Swearing at your mates is pretty common here, it's really tone and intent that give potty mouth words weight as aggressive and offensive. I get the sense that 'muricans are more shocked by the words themselves when it comes to ladyparts, like cunt and twat, or twot as ya'll say. Calling someone a twat can be pretty friendly. Plus it's multifunctional, to twat someone is to hit them, while being twatted means you're pished.
