Going back to the mid 1800's and for the next hundred years, the oil discoveries in the USA dominated the World headlines. "Gushers" they called them. The original was in Russia at Baku. They called them "Oil Fountains".

Almost without out fail, countries that have found themselves blessed with the Wealth of oil riches over the last 100 years, be it Iran, Iraq, Mexico, Venezuela, etc hoping to make them selves one of the top "Countries of the World" find themselves spiraling down the same exact well of corruption, dictatorship, incompetence, wasteful practices, the list is endless. And the vast majority of their populations that should be uplifted into affluence is reduced to abject poverty. Not here. Can anyone guess the difference?
