You can get a pretty powerful drone for 200 bucks these days, but passing through to a team the other side would be the simplest. The hardcore traffickers don't use the open border routes much for anything anyway, except weed which is low value density, and in the process of being legalised. The pressure sensors and thermal imaging are on the US side and are only triggered once they cross. More use of technology and manpower is a much more effective way of patrolling for illegal immigrants. As far as drugs and other contraband, those are coming through our ports of entry.
