I suppose it's how many receptors are in someone's mouth (tongue?) but I'm somewhat amazed by how some people it just doesn't bother and some it does. I worked with a guy that when we'd order chinese food he'd tell me have them make it as spicy as they can burn your mouth spicy. He put a spoonful of whatever he had in my tray and it was very spicy and i mean very, I had to spit it out. I also had a cousin and he grew some habaneros just for the heck of it and he put one in about a gallon of chili and it was too hot for his family to eat, so he made another gallon and mixed it all together. One day when he was out in the garden a neghbor stopped by and he had different peppers and she asked if she could eat some, and before he could tell her she ate a habanero and she didn't flinch and then she ate like 10 more, so he said you can eat all of those. I guess just some people somehow aren't as sensitive?

My Latina neighbor loves it when I give her some habeneros or seranno peppers from the garden. She'll usually invite me over for family cookouts when she has them.
More than one occasion though I've made something and taken it to work and 7/8ths of the Hispanics couldn't handle the heat. I laughed.

LOL...my father used to make Chow-Chow and decided back in the 90's to add habaneros to the mix. He made a mild version to take to the local masonic lodge with all his buddies but would take the habanero mix for initiations and degree testing. Hilarity and cursing ensued.

I also remember a story my aunt told me. she was married to a gambling addict. As in he was miltry man for 25 years or so, this was long ago, he was a pilot. He even made a bet one time he could flip over a row of airplanes, so he got into some big airplane and fired it up and the wind from his big plane flipped over all the small planes. Anyway he retired and wanted all his retirement pay all at once and it was gone in about a month. gambled and lost. So my aunt was telling me he got into a hot pepper eating contest with a guy , a bet "I can eat more" my aunt said the next day when he went to the bathroom his ass was burning so bad he went to the emergency room.
