Ukraine is estimated to have 5% of the world's known rare earth mineral deposits. 5% of the world's deposits in an area that is less than 0.4% of the world's land area? That's pretty significant. And its damn significant when you consider that China has been on a mission to hoard the entire world's supply of rare earth minerals and they are doing a pretty damn good job of it. On top of that, Ukraine has a huge amount of Lithium and Titanium and Graphite. All of which are very valuable in today's manufacturing.

The mineral angle is a very valid route to take and use every bit of leverage all of these $$ we have spent there in order to get as much as we can. Its actually a pretty brilliant plan to bring them in as a partner in this mineral business, because then we have a legitimate reason to defend them. Sort of like the Saudi's did with us and their oil.

The deal was already hammered out in advance. Zelensky was in Washington to sign it. That's why he was there. The briefing room was set up with 2 podiums for a presser afterwards. Zelensky then supposedly tried to alter the terms of the agreement by insisting on US troops as "security". Trump and Vance, rightfully, took exception to that.
All Zelensky had to do was show up, sign the fucking deal and none of this would be happening.
Despite their very public displays of Ukraine support, the Euros are telling the dwarf to get his shit together and make nice with the US all while insisting their support will be with US backing.
