I remember years ago, when i first got out of college, an aggregate (rock) salesman took me up to their quarry north of dallas. Now, up there are several quarries all in a pretty tight area and they mine and crush limestone. That limestone is used for most all of the concrete and asphalt that is used to build pretty much anything in Dallas or Fort Worth or any of the surrounding cities. You can imagine the volume of concrete and asphalt that it must take to build that many square miles of streets, buildings, parking lots, foundations, etc.
Well, then imagine driving up on a hole in the ground that you could put it all back into. Holy fucking shit! The only other time my mind was blown on that scale was when I drove up on a drag line in the woods that was working on one of those coal strip mines.
There is a rock quarry near the Nashville airport. During the 2010 floods, the berm at the top of the quarry failed and that bitch filled up with flood waters in about 5 minutes. It was truly awesome to watch.

The quarry, to the best of my knowledge, is still in operation. The ones that have standing water in the basin have to be dredged for bodies once or twice a year. Limestone is gold down here.

no way. you literally can't imagine the volume of limestone we are talking about. that water would be removed one way or another pretty quickly so they could get back to work. I would imagine that removing water from in there is an ongoing process all of the time. Obviously not that much water, but the system would be in place. Now, I'm sure some new thought went into the levee at the top between that open pit and the river or whatever that was right beside it.

I have a book about that project, "Angel's Don't Play this HAARP". The premise of the project itself is interesting, the book is full bore tin-foil asshattery.
