Well, I should say, for north Carolina. After the incident a few years back, we became more prepared. But even then it's not no snow, it was light snow.

It's never the snow. It's the ice/ icy conditions. Due to the mild conditions usually, schools usually have many planned weather days off they never need. Usually deemed not worth putting any one in danger in buses or traveling to and from school. They take the days off due to an abundance of caution. People here can't drive in the shit for crap.

The school here has snowmobile parking.

we very rarely get actual snow. its much more likely that we get freezing rain or sleet. and it doesn't take much of that to shut everything down. Especially if temps are below freezing for a few days prior and the roads get cold enough for the ice to freeze on top of the pavement. We didn't have any of that this year. We had one day of some sleet but the ground was warm enough that it didnt cause any problems.

that shit a few years back, when the power was out all over texas for several days, it was in the 20's or below for almost a week. and we got freezing rain. the roads were complete shit for about 3 days. I have never seen it worse than that.

Until I experienced some hilly southern roads myself during an ice storm I used to chuckle at the thought of everything shutting down. Being on a hilly ice covered road that has little to no chance of being salted during an ice storm is no fucking fun at all and seriously sucks ass.

i'm kind of surprised that the panhandle numbers are so low. I was expecting the percentages to be much larger out there than in central Texas. But its probably because grass is so sparse out there. Grazing acres per cow is much more out there.

After those fires, i hear they are hauling in hay by the hundreds of truckloads. Absolutely zero grass for those cows now in lots of places. The radio is loaded with stories about people hauling in hay. That's getting more coverage than the housing for the hundreds of people that lost homes.
