They know. They know they've become such a national embarrassment that they can't even look themselves in the mirror and admit it.

Laugh if you want, Flump, I don't care. It's the truth. I grew up a Southerner and have lived in a Southern state all my life. There's a term for a Southern traditional Democrat, that's "Dixiecrat". They had a different outlook on the Democrat party, sometimes quite in odds with the Democrat party of the North and West. And when they had the chance to wrestle control of the old Republican party, they did in spades. The old Republican party, the party of Lincoln, Eisenhower, Goldwater, Dewey, even Nixon and Ford, is no more. Yours is the party of John Connally and now Trump. A sad shell of a party, empty of the beliefs and values it once had. Now it's the party of Trump 24/7/365, the party of a meaningless image.

But you probably know basically jack shit about the history of your party, or even care. So laugh, little clown.

i don't need a lesson on southern democrats. i grew up in a family of southern democrats. they are all still southern democrats. they came from families with slaves and a few plantations in louisiana. they didn't "switch to republican in the 70's and 80's". you have no idea what you are talking about.

Richard Coke (March 18, 1829 – May 14, 1897) was an American lawyer, farmer, and statesman from Waco, Texas. He was the 15th governor of Texas from 1874 to 1876 and represented Texas in the U.S. Senate from 1877 to 1895. His uncle was Congressman Richard Coke, Jr..

No one benefited more from prevailing public sentiment than Richard Coke, who in 1873, leveraged resentment at Union occupation to construct a Democratic electoral coalition that ruled Texas for more than 100 years. This Democratic power was based on disfranchisement of blacks, Mexican Americans, and poor whites through the use of poll taxes and white primaries. For example, the number of black voters decreased sharply from more than 100,000 in the 1890s to 5,000 in 1906.
