Looks like Antarctica to me. Probably a good thing you weren't Cook's navigator.

Let me guess. An ancestor helped him "discover" the Great Barrier Reef.CaptQuint wrote: ↑Wed Aug 04, 2021 12:52 amI wish you were torn to pieces by nativesCentralTexasCrude wrote: ↑Wed Aug 04, 2021 12:47 amLooks like Antarctica to me. Probably a good thing you weren't Cook's navigator.

That boot shape at the bottom looks like New Zealand. The islands to the top left (10 o'clock) look like Hawaii. The land edge at the top is probably Mexico and Central America. And the white stuff to the bottom right is Antarctica.
So, yes, it looks like the Pacific Ocean.

This is the best I could do with Google Earth. The top land edge is possibly the west coast of Canada, maybe the west LA coast of California. But it's a bit hard to tell and I could be wrong, admittedly. Another view more southwards and to the west.Animal wrote: ↑Wed Aug 04, 2021 3:29 pmThat boot shape at the bottom looks like New Zealand. The geo-history of the Hawaiian Islands is so fascinating to me. The islands are apparently made from a fixed magma plume under the Pacific plate, and as the plate has moved north, it's left a kind of trail of crumbs going all the way back up to where the Aleutian Islands meet up with southeast Siberia.

If you can't be a good example, you can still serve as a horrible warning.

that's almost exact. That very top part is Baja and Mexico.
I read not long ago that the Hawaiian islands are constantly moving toward California. Not the islands themselves, the volcanoes that create them. As the west ones gradually sink back into the ocean, a new one will pop up to the east. and so on. so that over millions of years they will creep eastward. At least I think I remember that it said they were moving east.

Yeah, looking at that closely, Animal is correct. I couldn't figure out what that large body of water was at the top. Checking Canada/ NW US- there is none. It's the Gulf of Mexico/ Caribbean Sea.Animal wrote: ↑Wed Aug 04, 2021 7:07 pmhttps://earth.google.com/web/@-20.98580 ... 049h,0t,0rQillerDaemon wrote: ↑Wed Aug 04, 2021 5:39 pm This is the best I could do with Google Earth.
