i can't remember the wires, but if you touch red to white (or whatever someone that knows tells you) then it should kick the unit on. i don't remember which two wires it is, but yoiu can touch them and it will start the outside unit without a thermostat at all. You need DT to tell you exactly.

Yeah, this is a great idea. Hey DT, which wires do I connect to run the AC?. Here's what I thought to do. Disconnect the furnace power source from the plug in the furnace stall. Connect to an extension cord running to a convenient plug in my living room. Connect the wires to run the AC manually. Plug in and unplug the extension cord to run it. Temporary solution until my thermostat comes in next week.

To run the A/C (non stop) you would jump red, yellow and green.
The red wire is the hot wire, yellow controls the condenser and green will activate the fan.
There would be no temperature control, but it would give you cooling until the new t-stat arrives.
And yes, you can just unplug the furnace to shut everything down.

There you go WTC. Don't disconnect the old thermostat. Just get a a few short pieces of wire and make jumpers to connect red, yellow, and green. If you get those three connected you have the a/c running 24/7. to shut it on and off, you unplug the furnace.

you might want to just ship back that amazon thermostat and keep this one hot wired. you could put a christmas light timer on the furnace plug and set it to go on an hour before you come home and a couple of hours after you go to bed. it would rival the best programmable ones.

or, he could buy a burner phone and set it to "vibrate" and then put it on a slanted surface with a string around it hooked to a switch that controls the furnace. when he was ready to head home and wanted to turn on the A/C he could call the phone, it would vibrate and fall off the table, pulling the switch and the house would be nice and cool when he got home.
