Vulcan Fuego, Guatemala Xmas 2002. It sounded like a bomb going off.
and you just happened to be standing there with a camera in your hand? get the fuck out of here.
I was in a friends lodge 2000' up in the mountains above Antigua. It sounded like a bomb went off, we went outside and this was it. Here's a shot showing the distance which was about 15 miles.
The lava, which mostly flowed down the Monnterico side, went for 24 hrs. Locals said it was a burp.

about how many seconds after the "blast" do you think that pic was taken? I mean it has to be pretty damn quick to still be in that pristine shape above the mountain.

I'm surprised at how small the puff of smoke is after that long. Of course I have never in my life seen anything like that. I guess it blows up and then just kind of hangs in the air for a while. I don't know how far away you were, but if you were 20 miles, then it would take the sound nearly 2 minutes just to reach you.

Rolling Thunder was a Wooden Rollercoaster at Six Flags in Jackson, NJ. That thing was so rough to ride I would feel like I was in a boxing match afterwards.

Tobacco plantation. Castro regime takes 90% of his crop. He saves the best 10% to sell to tourists. Best stogie of my life, on horseback touring the farm.
The wrapper is a critical part. No veins, less nicotine.

The people are the exact opposite of what I was expecting. They love to laugh and put up with communism using practicality and cooperation.

I agree. I love the pictures that show a lot of geometry within them. parallel lines and angles and perspective all coming together.
