Mrs. CHEEZY went to our GP the other day and asked her point blank about the vaccine. The Dr.'s response:
Old folks: get it for sure
18-60ish meh to probably- depending on your particular situation
18 and under: Nope. Dont bother
Just curious: What about multigenerational households? I live in an area with a lot of Mexican and Filipino households. It's common for little kids and grandparents to live together in the same house.
I'd guess that Doctor was only referring to personal protection, not protection of others that may be vulnerable from transmission that came, say, via an infected 18 year old.
To get this bug under control, 60-70% of ALL people need to get vaccinated. Then it'll, hopefully, mostly die out.
But I don't like some folk's attitudes that seem to only care about themselves. We're better than that (I hope).
The whole point of a vaccine is to protect the person getting it from the disease its supposed to provide immunity too.
If the disease isn't really a threat to those who are not in the "high risk category", and all people in that category are vaccinated (who want it)...
Why in the hell do we need to inoculate those who are low risk that don't want it? Let those people just get the immunity the old fashion way and we would reach that 70% herd immunity in no time. To put it in another way, if the grand parents have their vaccines, why do the kids need em to go visit?
Seriously. Why? What's the logic?
((PS: Unlike Animals assessment its not just the fear of needles that might hold someone back from getting this shot. Some people don't trust giant corporations who have a history of selling known bad drugs --> earning them hundreds of billions and knowing full well the courts will ultimately cost them merely a couple tens of billions in fines after their shenanigans are exposed.
Also, there is no real incentive to make the best vaccine possible when the laws almost completely shield you from liability if/when you fuck it up.))

I don't agree with this opinion.
When you're dealing with a virus that has reached pandemic state, vaccines also have the purpose of lowering the incidence until it's no longer in a pandemic stage, and preferably eliminating it entirely (though it's not sure that it's possible in this case-though we did it for smallpox).
Also note that there are people out there who CAN"T be vaccinated, due to weak immune systems (even temporarily i.e. undergoing cancer treatment, for instance). To protect those people, it's necessary to vaccinate enough of those with normal immune systems to prevent transmission of the virus.
If someone believes that their only responsibility is to themselves, and fuck everyone else, then I say to them, "with all due respect," go fuck yourselves, you piece(s) of shit.

Still probably shouldn't have kept it down when answering the phone or taking a picture and talking to the other person, "a friend."

Jessy Jacob, a furloughed Detroit worker who was temporarily assigned to the city clerk’s office, was the first witness called by Mr Giuliani.
"I don't want you to do this if you feel uncircumcized, but would you be comfortable taking your mask off, so we can hear you more clearly?" Mr Giuliani asked Ms Jacob.
Looking hesitant, she asked the panel: "Can you hear me?"
When numerous people replied that they could, Ms Jacob kept her mask on.
Mr Giuliani shrugged and said: "OK."

So you subscribe to the idea that no one can have peanut butter because someone might be allergic.
While I subscribe to the idea that "(s)he who who is vulnerable should be the one to take the extra precautions."
But we should both be on board with cash incentive inoculations. It solves both problems without stepping on either.
