Quint, have you been watching the new Chernobyl series? Think it’s a 5 episode special. I’ve watched the first two and they’ve both been fantastic.CaptQuint wrote: ↑Sat May 25, 2019 6:44 pm
There is a commemoration day in Orthodox Church tradition called Radonitsa, which this year happened on 7 May. That day almost everybody visits graves of their relatives, so the cemetery doesn't always look that neat. German occupation of Belarus ended 75 years ago, to remember it he'd have be at least in his 80s, Belarus lost 25% of its population to the war but it doesn't mean everyone in that cemetery is a victim of the Germans. I think of that old man a lot.
Ok, thanks for the info. But I will have to disagree about your conclusion. I think the old man is around 80. Remembers where the execution field/ trench was. Still think his family was executed by the retreating Germans. Would be interesting if someone could locate him and get the story.CaptQuint wrote: ↑Sat May 25, 2019 6:44 pmThere is a commemoration day in Orthodox Church tradition called Radonitsa, which this year happened on 7 May. And among those victims are this old man's father, mother and sisters. Thus he tells the Brit to be silent on approaching it. The Brit says "I've been shushed", not understanding the situation. I'm also guessing the cemetery looks so good being out in the woods because this old man takes care of maintaining it.CaptQuint wrote: ↑Sat May 25, 2019 11:39 amThat was my take on his story as wellWestTexasCrude wrote: ↑Fri May 24, 2019 9:08 pmI known you posted this a week ago CQ, but I'm just watching it now. Totally amazing find. Just the fact it's in the chernobyl exclusion zone is interesting enough. But, did you check out the quick scene (around 14-15 minutes in) as they are crossing the bare farmer field on the way to the cemetery. The old man is describing from his childhood experience (makers of the video had no idea what he was referring to) the "Germans evacuating". IE- retreating on the Eastern Front/ 1943/44? He mentions clouds of flies and Rooks in the trees. I'm sure he's referring to them feeding on the piles of dead civilians and soldiers the Germans executed before they left.

This also isn't actually her, but her wax image on display somewhere. She's also a mother of four.

So what was the intent on posting it, any way, if there no nothing to its meaning?
