The government should rent these cruise ships that are being parked by the cruise lines. And use them as floating quarantine places. If people test positive, they get a free trip out to a cruise ship that is anchored off the coast. Free room and board until they get a negative test which wins them a free trip back home.
That sounds like a brilliant idea to me. I mean, they're just sitting there doing nothing at this point & put together they have many thousands of rooms available. You might as well put them to good use and we'll prolly need the capacity when this pandemic really takes hold.
Yeah, and what does an 8 day cruise cost if you go cheapo? around $1000 a person or less? No fancy shows or meals, just 2 meals a day in your room and tv access.

TBH, there's all this talk about people getting cabin fever from being quarantined but I would be fine as long as I had a computer and internet access. There's plenty of content to keep my mind occupied. I also highly prefer Amazon as opposed to having to drive around & waste time and money by shopping at brick & mortar stores.
My wife is the complete opposite. She's already bitching when I told her not to go to the gym and stay home. She also likes to go out & shop. Oh well, I guess people are different. (wait for the crude remarks about my wife now). lol

Apparently one of their problems (at least for inside cabins) is they have poor air circulation, and no isolation on board. They sound worse than airliners.

Or they could just quarantine in their fucking houses instead of rounding them up and herding them in box cars......I think that's been done before.

Yeah, it's a great idea, and think of the money you'd save on funeral costs by just burying them at sea! :sarcasm:

Things are getting bad in Jersey. Sounds like they may be closing schools.
I think NJ developed their own test kits (we have lots of labs and major pharmaceutical companies), and now that they don't have to wait forever for CDC results, they're finding a whole lot more people have it.
I expect the same for much of the U.S. once more screening is possible.

Yep...there is definitely a momentum building. The best to hope for is slowing the spread down to something manageable for hospitals instead of a Tsunami. The lack of testing kits is a monumental blunder.

I heard on the radio that they have studied a few things about the virus and found that that virus can live up to 24 hours on cardboard. on FUCKING CARD BOARD. If an infected person touched a piece of cardboard with some virus on their hands, then it would sit there alive on that cardboard for a whole day.
They said on steel and aluminum surfaces it can live for 3 days. 3 fucking days. Some infected dude touches a turnstile and 3 days later there is virus still on there. Its no wonder this shit is spreading like it is. You can't combat that. It obviously has the ability to grow like a mother fucker. I mean it just started in the first human about 70 days ago.

Cruise ships as quarantine locations is a terrible idea. They already deal with norovirus outbreaks on the regular. It will just.keep spreading and reinfecting everyone like passing a cold around the family repeatedly. And the Crown princess (I think that was the name)was a govt enforced quarantine in Japan where they were trying to set the "gold standard" and contain the problem. That thing turned into hot box real quick.
Im staying home. We have provisions to last a month.
And don't think your regular grocery shopping that last 2 weeks will last two weeks in a lock down. Because Americans eat out as much as they keep food at home. So you're two week supply will only last a week in isolation at best assuming you don't really reduce portion size.
Read the situation as it's developing. Get ready. Ignore AH and treat it like it's a real problem. Because it is

I also heard it cannot survive above 82.4 degrees, which explains why all cases in Florida were caused by imports
no shit? Is that serious? It completely dies at 83 degrees?

this seems like it should be getting more traction in the news. I mean, you know what the weather here has been like the last couple of days. And the severe cases are washington state and new york, which are probably not having 80 degree days.
I wonder how it is that the virus grows like crazy inside a body that has a temperature of 98.6 degrees and yet it dies outside the body at 83 degrees?

Though it might just "Move South" for the Summer, like the flu.

Md closed public schools.
And if you don't think this doesn't have the hallmarks of population killer you don't understand what makes them so nasty.
We have 80% of infected not showing symptoms or very mild symptoms. But they are CARRIERS. It's projected to spread to up to 70% of the population when it's all said and done. That's the transmission phase. You don't want it being deadly because it won't spread. You want it highly contagious. Which it is.
The question is does it have a multi stage effect on people? Now imagine that 70% of the world has it and in 12 months it comes back. This time with a 30% mortality rate instead of 3%.
The way it's behaving is exactly how you would want an engineered contagion to behave during the transmission stage. Mild, highly infectious, virulent, lasts on hard surfaces and porous surfaces.
Don't you guys read books and watch TV? This is nightmare fiction and the govt response is exactly what you would expect when they are scared.
When the lock down comes, have what you need to last a month. I wish I was joking. Will be happy to wear a "conspiracy but" badge in 24 months if this blows over.

Even though I wouldn't put it past something like what you are talking about......I don't think you even need to have something that is engineered......We got human beings eating rats and bats an fucking Koala bears in hot open air markets. Like they are living in the year 1200AD.

I live in a city with over 400,000 people. We don't have a single confirmed case of Corona. The public schools just shut down for 3 weeks. I guess they're just trying to stay ahead of the curve.

And Keith Richards will be immune, as usual. Nothing can survive in his blood.

You know what, in all seriousness I do drink alcohol but I haven't touched any illegal drugs in over 30 years.
I was just reading about what they did to treat people in 1918 with Spanish Influenza and at the top of list is that they gave them whiskey. I'm not sure if that helped but that's what they did.

if the people in new orleans survived Katrina, then there is already a playbook on how to get drugs and liquor during a lockdown crisis.

March break is coming up and the schools up here have already shut down for an extra 2 weeks afterwards.
So now we'll have all these young fucks coming back from Florida and whatnot and running around town instead of where they belong.....
