I know what happened. I just wouldn't call it stealing. I can see why people would, but to me, it was just more shit to control the masses. Swapping and copying religious stories was a constant thing back then.

But it's not just religious stories, it was religions appropriating cultural traditions (e.g. holidays) and plastering Christian iconography overtop. If we're talking religious tenets and stories, then yeah I definitely agree. But the Catholic Church went way beyond that into culturally usurping any groups they overtook. Again, not saying that hasn't been a strategy in the zealot's playbook a long time, but then this devolves into whether a thief can steal from a thief.
