I am just curious about people's experiences lately with the mail. Is anyone else suddenly getting a MUCH larger percentage of late mail? I mail out lots of checks in a month (hundreds). And over the past few months, I average probably 4 or 5 checks a month that I have to stop payment and re-issue checks. I have never really had a problem with the mail prior to this. And it pisses me off for several reasons. First, the bank charges an enormous fee to cancel a check. Second, it can cost hundreds of dollars in late fees for some checks (fuel bill was late and had to be re-issued and the interest alone on that one month bill was nearly $700), third its a huge hassle accounting wise to cancel a payment and re-issue one.

The mail service to Bermuda is very slow, hope this helps.

Here though, people wire money to each other, everyone does it and it’s quite simple, and there are no fees involved. I’m wondering if you can start doing so and avoid the check
problem. The US needs to move on from checks.

i am seriously looking into that. My problem is the accounting side of it. If I get a built in module for quickbooks, which makes it a one entry system like i have now, then they charge $2 per transaction. Which is fucking ridiculous. My bank offers on online bill pay option, which I think is cheaper than writing checks (and much faster with no slow mail), BUT that requires 2 accounting entries. One entry to do the process online and another to enter the transaction into quickbooks. For the past month I have done 4 payments using the online method. Just to see how it works and how much extra work it is. Plus, I want to see what the real fees are for it.

One bill cost you $700 in interest for a month and you use Quickbooks for your accounting seems far fetched.

So the old "the check is in the mail " excuse is backfiring huh?

My power bill and garbage bill both came after the due date and I just got a xmas card last week

fuel companies are ridiculous on what they charge for late payments. Plus fuel bills are ridiculously big to begin with.

But using QB isn't far fetched. Why do you think that?

electronic bill pay. cut me in for 100k ill get you up to speed in a few weeks.

that is another one of my problems lately. When we get bills the secretary stamps them with the date they are received and opened. Sometimes the date she stamps is beyond their due date. This just seems to be getting worse by the day. And the really weird part is it seems the companies that charge the most for late payments are the ones I have the most trouble with. Some of them I go online and print the bill myself and mail the check early and I still get late payments due to the mail delivery.

My gun club is Cash or check only, when we get the propane tank filled we'll write the driver a check and there are still a few local businesses that will let me write them for over the amount if I need a little cash. That's about it.
