Okay, I gave 1883 five episodes but I'm not seeing anything here that makes me want to watch the sixth. I'm bailing.
That said, I will give them kudos for one thing.
Whenever you see a running gunfight on horses in a western the two groups are always 50-75 yards apart and they're shooting at each other with revolvers... on running horses. It's ridiculous.
But the running gunfight on horses in EP 5 is up close and personal with everyone shooting at each other from 15-20 feet away. And they're still missing 90% of the time. It's much more realistic.
But even that gunfight suffers from the two classic Western blunders...
"Endless ammunition syndrome" and "They shoot at each other 50 times but no one ever hits a horse syndrome".
It would be different if alec baldwin was involved.
i'm not sure that RD understands the difficulty of asking a horse to pretend they were shot in a pretend gunfight. good horse actors are not easy to find.

It looks like 1883 was a one and done series.
If that's true it's because they tried to do that Paramount + bullshit.
Sorry, I already pay for enough.
I wanted to watch but not I'm not paying extra

Well they blew away the records signing up new streaming customers to Paramount + over that one show.

And it wasn't enough apparently... Unless it was just supposed to be a one-off. Regardless, it's not a stretch to believe more would have watched had it been free.

I watched the first two episodes of Yellowstone and bailed. The writing is just horrible, and it hurt watching people say things that they never would (or in a very different manner) in real life. Stilted and dull. The acting is pretty good, just the poor actors have to regurgitate such drivel for their lines. I think well enough of Costner as an actor, even, and he's barely doing much besides chewing on the script. But I'd certainly not mind seeing more the daughter.
If you can't be a good example, you can still serve as a horrible warning.

No. it was written as a one off.
Turns out there will be a second season, 1883: The Bass Reeves Story

Sheridan is moving on to a new Dutton family; 1932
With Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford. Damn, he's gaining some clout.
Sounds like its picking up the last years of the McGraw/Hill characters from 1883
1883 to 1932 would be 50 years. So, unless Harrison Ford is going to play a 90 year old Tim McGraw, I am going to bet that Harrison Ford is the son of Tim McGraw.

Then Ford is playing the son from 1883? That seems to work

You think 80 year old Harrison Ford is going to play a 55 year old?

I would think so. Who lived to be 90 years old in 1932? And how much fun would they be to watch in a movie? I honestly don't know, but there was a boy in the 1883 show. I don't know how old he was.

Yeah, theres a gap that would be too difficult to explain, which is why I think he plays James Dutton in the latter years

Well, he could have a bit part, like Tom Hanks did in the opening scene of 1883. If all he played was the old man in the house that the real star says a few words to, then maybe so. I was working off the assumption that he was the star of the show.
