I’m morphing into a lefty. I’m finding myself more and more in agreement with mortal enemies of our state.China has joined Russia in opposing further Nato expansion as the two countries move closer together in the face of Western pressure.
Moscow and Beijing issued a statement showcasing their agreement on a raft of issues during a visit by Russia's Vladimir Putin for the Winter Olympics.
Mr Putin claims Western powers are using the Nato defence alliance to undermine Russia.
It comes amid tensions over Ukraine, which he denies planning to invade.
Some 100,000 Russian troops remain at the border with Ukraine, which is a former Soviet republic. Mr Putin, who has written that Russians and Ukrainians are "one nation", has demanded that Ukraine be barred from joining Nato.
While the lengthy joint statement did not refer directly to Ukraine, the two countries accused Nato of espousing a Cold War ideology.

How many Americans would do this? In my heart I want to say "All of them." My brain however says "probably not as many as you hope."

I just heard on the news that the Ukranian President has been told that the invasion will start Wednesday. And that the markets are responding right now to the same news.

Does it strike you as odd that Russia informs Ukraine what day the invasion will commence? This whole thing is whacked

March 18, 2003
WASHINGTON, March 18 (UPI) -- U.S. forces on Tuesday dropped 360,000 leaflets over southern Iraq telling Iraqi soldiers not to use chemical or biological weapons and warning civilians to avoid military sites, with an invasion of Iraq possibly just a day away, according to U.S. Central Command.
One day after the Office of Homeland Security raised the domestic threat alert to "orange," or "high alert," all American forces and their families in Europe were put on a boosted threat alert Tuesday. The entire European theater -- including Turkey -- is now operating under force protection condition "Charlie," meaning officials believe a terrorist or military attack is imminent, a EUCOM official said.
President George W. Bush announced in a televised address Monday that Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein and his sons had 48 hours to leave Iraq, the only way to avert a war with the United States.
The war started March 20th.

I guess it depends. If basically all “free and independent” media make out the patriots as the ones preventing “peace”, then it may take the reds a little longer to crush the populace.CHEEZY17 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 13, 2022 11:52 am How many Americans would do this? Re: Why would Russia invade Ukraine?
Okay, has Russia finally pushed this bluff as far as they can? Are they about ready to sit down and try to negotiate whatever it is that they have staged all of this for?
I am ready to think that must be the case. The markets are simply just not responding to this as if its an imminent fact that there will be an invasion. When stories about Trump or Prince Andrew top the news instead of a chance for WWIII to start, this has all got to be a big pile of nothing.
But every time I start to think this I am reminded of Sadam just recklessly carrying out his bluff until he was drug out of a hole in the ground and hanged. Or Qadafi hiding in a storm pipe until they literally beat him to death.

What bluff? Putin isn't afraid of whoever is caretaking Joe Biden. Like the rest of the world, he has no respect for Biden's handlers, because he, like the rest of the world, knows Biden's handlers are weak and cowardly. Guaranteed he'll commence the invasion whenever he feels ready, because he knows he can.Animal wrote: ↑Tue Feb 15, 2022 5:08 pm Okay, has Russia finally pushed this bluff as far as they can? And he will laugh at our country's meager, ineffectual response. And why shouldn't he? We don't know who is actually in charge of our country, and it's painfully obvious that our addle-brained, dementia-ridden pseudo-president will be made Vladimir Putin's prison bitch. We're now at a point where Russia, which is essentially a glorified third world country, feels emboldened to give the world the finger because the United States -- traditionally the world's babysitter -- has no leadership.

Bluffing or not, China is taking notes watching how the west responds.
Honestly, I think our (the wests in general) clusterfuck of a response all but guarantees a move on Taiwan.
